Indian Railways Start Shipping Amazon Consignment! Project Rolls Out In West Bengal With EMU Train
Under a new initiative, Indian Railways partnered up with Amazon to transport their goods by train, and the debut of this project took off successfully. Indian Railways hopes to boost their revenues through this.
This is the first time ever that an Amazon parcel has been shipped by train, from Sealdah to Dankuni in West Bengal.
As per the release report declared by the Indian Railways, the pilot project, Indian Railways will now be able to build and develop an e-commerce product for transporting freight through rail network.

Amazon Consignment Transported By Railways For The First Time Ever
The Eastern Railways kick-started the new initiative by the Indian Railways by carrying the first-ever consignment of Amazon from Sealdah to Dankuni through an EMU local.
A spokesperson shared details about who benefits from this, and how. He said, “The railways will be benefitted through generation of revenue, without putting any additional stress or burden on the existing system, whereas Amazon will be benefitted through a reduced transit time.”
The spokesperson said that Amazon opted for the route from Sealdah to Dankuni with swift movement in mind of the consignment to the existing facility at Dankuni. Now that the pilot project has turned out to be a success, Amazon will go for various other routes. He also hinted at the possibility of other e-commerce companies being interested in this.
Amazon India and Indian Railways To Build E-commerce Transportation Product
Through the initial observations, Amazon India and Indian Railways have put their heads together to build an e-commerce transportation product, which will have improved capacity planning, contract payment methods, improved infrastructure and even the safety and security of freight transport through railways.
Amazon India director (Middle Mile Transportation) Abhinav Singh said, “The reach and speed of the Indian Railways will further help us fulfill customer orders faster and reliably across the country.”
In addition to that, the press release has also announced that Amazon India will now transport packages of customers with the Indian Railways on three routes: New Delhi to Mumbai, Mumbai to New Delhi and New Delhi to Kolkata.
Apparently, Amazon has observed a boost in speed, and reliability for the packages that have been transported through railways.
