Amazon Sells Rs 750 Cr Of Premium Smartphones On Day 1; Flipkart Claims 100% Increase In Festive Sales?
As Day 1 of the mega festive sales on both Amazon and Flipkart has ended, and Day 2 has begun, both of these ecommerce portals have claimed victory.
While Amazon has shocked everyone by claiming that they have sold premium smartphones from OnePlus, Apple, Samsung and Redmi worth Rs 750 crore on Day 1, Flipkart has claimed 100% increase in their festive sales.
Checkout some interesting numbers and stats from the Flipkart’s Big Billion Days Sales and Amazon’s The Great Indian Sale, 2019:
Amazon: Rs 750 Cr Of Premium Smartphones Sold
Amazon has claimed that within the first 36 hours of sales of their mega The Great Indian Sale, they have sold Rs 750 crore of premium smartphones.
Amazon has also claimed this to be their biggest ever opening.

Amazon Global Senior Vice President and India Country Head Amit Agarwal said, “With the single largest day of Prime sign-ups, and record number of customer and seller participation, this is the biggest opening day sale for Amazon.in,”
On Amazon India, 91% of the new customers came from Tier 2 and 3 cities, and along with smartphones, fashion and lifestyle was their biggest categories to have received bumper sales.
Besides premium smartphones, sale of LED TVs and other expensive appliances are selling like hot cakes, and the average sale in the first 36 hours has been 10X the average sale.

Amit further said, “Over 55,000 artisan products across more than 270 unique arts and crafts is available on the platform…over 2500 sellers recorded their highest ever sale on a single day,”
Flipkart: We Experienced 100% Increase In Sales
On the other hand, Walmart owned Flipkart, which is conducting their Big Billion Day Sales, have claimed that compared to last year’s festive sales, they have experienced 2X or 100% increase in sale.
Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy has also said that Tier 2 and 3 cities are their biggest audience this year.
He said,”Affordability and value driven themes clearly are the pulsating chords for India and Bharat. Number of transacting customers from tier II and beyond have doubled over last year’s BBD sale on day 1,”Â

Unlike Amazon, Flipkart’s biggest numbers came from fashion, beauty, private labels and furniture categories. Travel is the category which received maximum growth, as the volume increased by 12X, compared to last year.
They are confident that smartphone sales will pick up from Day 2.
Both of the ecommerce portals didn’t reveal the actual revenues generated, but as per ecommerce observers, both Amazon and Flipkart can churn upto $5 billion of festive sales this year.
The sale period will end on October 4th.
