First week into 2019, and already we have some big announcements for the year. Just like 2018, the year is expected to be exciting for smartphones and gadgets. India will again see some of the top smartphone companies fighting it out to take a share of the pie.
While Xiaomi announced its lineup for 2019, Realme is gearing up to take the game one level further.
OnePlus continues to dominate the premium market, and Samsung is making news with its upcoming foldable smartphone, Galaxy S10 and its first water drop notch series. Let’s take a look at this week’s trending smartphones in India.

Xiaomi Mi 9
Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi 9 is being rumoured to launch by the end of February. The smartphone will probably be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress with Snapdragon 855 platform. Mi 9 will come with a triple rear camera setup including a 48MP Sony IMX 586 sensor, secondary 12MP sensor and a third 3D TOF camera. The base model with 6GB and 128GB storage will cost around CNY 2,999 (about Rs 30,550).
Honor View 20
The Honor V20 will launch in the country as Honor View 20. The smartphone will be unveiled on January 29 with the first 7nm Android chip: Kirin 980 processor and 4,000mAh battery. Honor View 20 will have a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display with a punch-hole to house in the front camera, Kirin 980 processor, EMUI 9 based on Android 9.0 Pie, 48MP Sony IMX 586 primary sensor and Huawei Super Charge feature.
Nokia 9 PureView
The upcoming Nokia 9 PureView will soon be official by the end of the month. Nokia 9 PureView was also recently leaked in a promo with a penta-camera setup. Nokia 9 will have a 5.99-inch special PureDisplay 2K screen technology, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, Qi wireless charging support, Snapdragon 845, 6GB of RAM, 128GB internal storage running on Android 9 Pie on Android One program.
Samsung Galaxy S10
The 10th anniversary edition Samsung Galaxy S10 has been leaked with live images. The leaked images have revealed some key details which include a punch hole camera on the display with very thin bezels on the sides. It’s going to be one of the first smartphones to come with a display hole to house in a selfie camera. Samsung is yet to use a notch for its smartphones.
Poco F2
The Poco F2 concept render has revealed a new water drop notch design. Poco F2 was recently listed on a certification site which shows a water drop notch on the front. The Poco F2 looks very similar to another newly launched Xiaomi device, Mi Play. Poco F2 with the new design looks smarter, and Xiaomi will probably carry the same Mi Play design for Poco F2.
Redmi 7
Xiaomi will probably launch its seventh generation Redmi 7 on Jan 10 as  a part of the newly announced Redmi sub-brand. Xiaomi separated Redmi to label it as a budget brand, much like Honor (Huawei) or Realme (Oppo). The company will launch a new Redmi phone under the brand soon, and Redmi 7 seems the most probable device.
Vivo NEX 2
Reportedly Vivo is working on a budget version of the newly launched Vivo NEX 2. The smartphone will come with a Snapdragon 710 chipset, smaller battery and the same two displays. To make the device accessible to the mass, the company has planned the device. The toned down version of Vivo NEX 2 will launch in India soon, probably by the end of January or early February. The original Vivo NEX Dual Display has been launched at CNY 4,998 (around Rs 52,250).
