Realme 2 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi A2: The Ultimate Clash Of Titans! [Comparison]

Realme will unveil Realme 2 Pro on September 27, but incidentally, all the specs are out already. Even an unboxing video of the Realme 2 Pro is out confirming the key features and specifications of the device.

The device will come with upto 8GB of RAM, 128GB storage and the best mid-range chipset: Snapdragon 660.

But, how will Realme 2 Pro fare against the other Snapdragon 660 champion: Xiaomi Mi A2. The Mi A2 is in line with what Realme 2 Pro offers, and both the smartphones feature more and less identical features.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 is currently available at a price of Rs 16,999, whereas the Realme 2 Pro is being speculated to cost under Rs 15,000. Let’s find out who’s better!

Design & Built

Realme has dropped it’s diamond cut design for Realme 2 Pro. The device will come with a metal like finish in a polycarbonate body. Whereas, the Xiaomi Mi A2 already features a metal unibody design.

In terms of sturdiness, Mi A2 will stay a notch ahead, but both the smartphones offer quality built on the out.

Display

Realme 2 Pro will come with a 6.3-inch 19:9 elongated IPS LCD display. It has a screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels with a water-drop notch at the top. Xiaomi Mi A2 has a 5.99-inch Full HD+ 18:9 widescreen display.

Realme 2 Pro has a clear advantage here with higher screen space and larger display size.

Hardware & Storage

Realme 2 Pro will feature Snapdragon 660 processor with upto 8GB of RAM. Mi A2 runs the same chipset with 4GB of RAM. Snapdragon 660 can handle multitasking easily, even in heavy usage conditions.

Both the devices can handle heavy graphics games and memory heavy apps. Performance is not an issue on both Realme 2 Pro and Xiaomi Mi A2.

Realme 2 Pro will come in three storage versions upto 128GB, while Mi A2 has a single storage variant of 64GB.

Software

Realme 2 Pro will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box based on Color OS 5.1 UI. Xiaomi Mi A2 on the other hand has an advantage here with Android One. The device currently ships with Android Oreo with a stock Android experience with no bloatware.

Backed by Google, Xiaomi Mi A2 will get promised version upgrades till Android Q with timely security updates.

Rear Camera

Xiaomi Mi A2 has a 12 megapixel f/1.8 sensor coupled with a 20 megapixel secondary f/1.8 lens backed by PDAF. Realme 2 Pro will also come with a dual camera set up comprising of a 16 megapixel primary sensor coupled with a 2 megapixel secondary depth sensor.

Realme 2 Pro camera performance is yet to be evaluated. Mi A2 camera delivers one of the best well-detailed images irrespective of any lighting conditions at this price point.

Update:

We compared both the cameras, and Realme 2 Pro turned out to be steller. In some of the conditions, Realme 2 Pro even outperformed Mi A2. So, its a close tie between the two.

Front Camera

Realme 2 Pro comes with a 16 megapixel camera backed by AI-powered features. The front camera will come with AI capabilities like intelligent scene detection, portrait mode, wide mode and more.

Xiaomo Mi A2 will probably deliver clear pictures up front with the 20 megapixel f/2.2 sensor with an 1.0µm pixel size.

Realme 2 Pro performed adequately in both good lit and poor-lit conditions.

Connectivity

Both the smartphones come with a standard set of connectivity features like Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS. Both the smartphones offer dual SIM support with Dual 4G VoLTE.

Battery

Mi A2 comes with a 3,000mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 fast-charging technology. On the other hand, Realme 2 Pro will come with a huge 3,500mAh capacity. Also, Realme 2 Pro will support any sort of fast charging, but with a larger battery, it can run for more.

Price & Availability

The 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant is expected to cost Rs 15,000, while the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant at around Rs 18,000. Xiaomi Mi A2 currently ships for Rs 16,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant.

Realme 2 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi A2: Verdict

With a bigger notched display, larger battery, good cameras and design on Realme 2 Pro will outperform Xiaomi Mi A2. Both Mi A2 and Realme 2 Pro will come with the powerful Snapdragon 660 SoC, so performance is not going to be a differentiating factor here.

But with Android One, Mi A2 has a clear advantage over Realme 2 Pro in terms of user experience. 

Realme 2 Pro is a complete package at its price. Xiaomi Mi A2 will have a hard time competing for this beast, but with Mi 8 Lite on the way, things are expected to change again.
