Nokia Is Bringing Bring Back the Indestructible Nokia 3310; Nokia 3, 5 & 6 To Be Unveiled at MWC 2017
If you have seen internet memes going around comparing iPhones with Nokia 3310, there is a high chance you already know why the phone is iconic. The feature phone has been lauded as indestructible by today’s smartphone standards, and was easily one of the most common phones back in early 2000s.
Almost fifteen years down the line, HMD Global that is going to produce Nokia smartphones from now has been rumoured to launch the phone again this year at the Mobile World Congress 2017. The company has already launched the Nokia 6 smartphone for the Chinese market.
The expected price of the phone is $62 or Rs. 4,000 which seems quite pricey for today’s standards. However, the company is not just planning to launch it for the value proposition but also because it has nostalgia associated with it.
HMD is not planning to reinvent the phone, instead, they might be launching a similar dumb phone with slightly advanced features. However, it should retain its structure and shape, resistance to any damage, long battery life and those good old Nokia games.
For developing countries like India, having basic 3G or 4G services has become a necessity, as the market keeps evolving at a rapid pace. We hope HMD is able to keep up with these developing needs and brings in a 4G-enabled feature phone for people who are willing to purchase Nokia phones again.
Nokia 3, 5 and 6 Global launch at MWC 2017
Mobile World Congress is held at Barcelona every year, and it is the perfect event for a company to display the latest tech it has. Apart from the recently launched Nokia 6, the company is also planning to showcase Nokia 3 and 5 smartphones.
Nokia 3 will be a budget phone with a 4.7-5” qHD display, 2GB RAM and 16/32GB ROM, a quad-core chipset and decent cameras. The price of this smartphone is expected to be around $160 or Rs. 10,000.
Nokia 5 will be a mid-range smartphone hosting a 5.2” 720p display, 2GB RAM and 16/32GB ROM and a 12MP camera. The smartphone is expected to cost around $210 or Rs. 14,000. Both these smartphones do not have specifications good enough to counter the likes of Chinese smartphone makers.
There is no news on availability of these phones, but they should also be coming to Asia Pacific countries, including India very soon. Keep an eye out for more updates on MWC 2017!
