Airtel Now Offers 5GB Data Free To Home Broadband Users Under ‘myHome Rewards’
In an industry-first move India’s leading telecom operator, Airtel has started offering extra data benefits to its home broadband users based on the number of Airtel connections (postpaid mobiles or DTH) they have.
Internet penetration has not only increased in India but the average connection has also gone up in the recent times. Now, even though Indians have the slowest internet in the Asia-Pacific region with an average speed of just 2.8 Mbps, it has increased by 11% QoQ, reports Akamai.
The report also reveals that only 17% of the connections in India are 4 Mbps and above while only 2.8% of Indian broadband users surf at 10 Mbps and above.
Recently, BSNL, the largest wired broadband provider in the country having over 9.91 million subscribers, increased the FUP speed to 1 Mbps. FUP (Fair Usage Policy) is used by almost all major ISPs (Internet Service Providers) across the world to keep a check on bandwidth abuse by heavy downloaders on shared connections.
Last year BSNL broadband had also set the minimum speed to 2 Mbps post which the FUP speed of 512 Kbps was applicable. Both these decisions by BSNL are likely to boost India’s average internet speed significantly.
How ‘myHome Rewards’ Works?
Under the ‘myHome Rewards’ all Airtel broadband home users will get 5 GB additional data/month on their broadband plan for each Airtel postpaid mobile and digital TV connection (DTH) in their family.
This offer is valid for all existing and new Airtel postpaid mobile and DTH connections.
So if you have 3 Airtel postpaid mobiles and 1 Airtel DTH connection at your home, then you will get 20 GB extra data/month on your home broadband connection.
“At Airtel, it is our constant endeavour to delight our customers with great products and services. As a further step in this direction, we are very excited to launch ‘myHome Rewards’ today. This is a gesture from us to thank our broadband customers for giving us an opportunity to serve them. Along with the unlimited free calling benefit on our landline, customers can now make the most of their Airtel broadband with the free additional data benefits,” said Hemanth Kumar Guruswamy, CEO – Homes, Bharti Airtel.
To claim this extra data, all you have to do is register your home Airtel connections on either myAirtel app or here.
India will soon witness the launch of the much anticipated Jio 4G and unless you have been living under a rock, you know that Jio is not just an ISP. It aims to grab a large pie of the market share by offering live TV, video streaming services, and many more along with unlimited voice calls at competitive prices. This will disrupt the telecom industry in India.
Hence, the incumbents are busy gaining new subscribers while they still can by either slashing data tariffs or launching extra data schemes like this.
‘myHome Rewards’ programme is an awesome offer from Airtel and would yield very good results at places where Airtel offers its wired broadband services. Are you an Airtel broadband user? If yes, then what do you think about this offer? Already feeling excited, eh?
