The Alto 800 is Maruti Suzuki’s most affordable vehicle in the Indian market. The company is now working to introduce a new generation model for the same.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto has not just one of the best-selling hatchbacks, it is also one of the top-selling cars in the Indian market for a long time. Maruti Suzuki may be releasing a new generation model for this entry-level hatch so that the company can expand their leverage throughout the country.
The company has not confirmed the news yet. But, here are 5 important things you need to know about the upcoming new generation Alto release before it’s launch is announced.
Platform and design
The new generation Alto is expected to be built on the same light weight heartect K platform which is used in S-presso. But, the new generation is expected to be styled more like a crossover and it will have a slightly higher ride height, unlike the current low slung Alto 800. The new generation Alto has also been seen on test a couple of times, this reveals that the hatchback will grow in size, and the overall silhouette will remain the same as the outgoing model.
Powertrain
The new generation Alto is expected to be fitted with the same 796 cc, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that is available with the current version of the hatch. The engine puts out 48 PS of maximum power along with 69 Nm of park torque. The now generation hatch hatch will have an optional automatic gearbox which might help the car attract more buyers.
Features
The Alto is an entry-level car and it’s features are very basic. But, the company’s rivals are now offering a host of snazzy features with their entry-level cars and Maruti Suzuki certainly does not want to be left behind.
The top-end variant of the next generation Alto is expected to offer features like the latest version of Maruti Suzuki Smartplay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, power windows, LED DRLs, wheel caps, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors.
Expected launch
The Alto 800’s successor in the Indian market by late 2022. But, a definite launch timeline is not yet revealed.
Price and rivals
The next generation Maruti Suzuki Alto will likely be priced from Rs. 3.8 lakh to 4.2 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards, and will be rivaling against Reneault Kwid and Dastun redi-GO.
