After Kushaq, Skoda Will Launch A New Sedan To Fight Honda City’s Dominance In India
In a recent announcement, the Czech automaker, Skoda has informed about the launch of two new locally developed products in the Indian market within a year.
New Skoda Launches
The two products are Kushaq mid-sized SUV and a new midsize sedan.
Out of these two, the Skoda Kushaq will be launched by mid-2021.
On the other hand, the new Skoda sedan is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2021.
Matching the timing, a new Skoda sedan has been caught testing in Pune.
This new sedan is expected to be the upcoming mid-sized sedan.
Further, the new model is anticipated to be rivaling the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.Â
The soon-to-be-launched model will be based on the locally developed Volkswagen Group’s MQB AO IN platform, also Codenamed Skoda ANB.
Skoda ANB Specifications
The new sedan gets a signature Skoda grille, halogen headlamps and fog lamps, according to the newly spied images.
In the rear, the vehicle gets a notchback design, which is firstly inspired by the new Octavia.
Additionally, they will have balanced proportions, sharp edges and vibrant design elements.
The new sedan is expected to have similar interior features and specs with the new Skoda Kushaq mid-sized SUV.
Speculations say that the new sedan will replace the Rapid and will also be larger than the Rapid.
Moreover, the new model could sit alongside the Rapid, which is the same strategy adopted by Honda Cars India as Honda is selling the new City alongside the older model.
Powertrain
According to the speculations, the new Skoda ANB sedan will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol.
Where the former is good for 113bhp and 175Nm of torque, while later produces 147bhp and 250Nm of torque.
However, the booth will be offering manual and automatic gearbox options.
Soon, Skoda will also be launching the new Octavia sedan with a new 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine.
Apart from that, the launch of the Kodiaq facelift and the Kushaq mid-sized SUVs is lined up later this year.
If we talk about positioning then the new Skoda Kushaq will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks.
