Skoda has finally announced the new Kushaq mid-size SUV in India. A compact SUV that will compete with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The Vision IN concept at the 2020 Auto Show was a platform where the car was introduced.

The official name was announced by the company in January of this year. It is also the first model which is to be introduced in the company’s India 2.0 product campaign.

These vehicles will be manufactured in India and will be based on the MQB-A0-IN version of Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit. Skoda Kushaq will be 95 per cent localized in India and the models have been tested for 1.5 million kilometres in India.

“In 2018, we started India Project 2.0. The Indian market offers immense potential market to Skoda. India will soon be the third-largest carmaker in the world by 2026. With this brand new model, we open an all-new chapter in India,” said Thomas, quoting an update from Times of India.

The Kushaq has a wheelbase of 2,651mm, which is longer than the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, which are its main competitors. The car would have more cabin space due to the longer wheelbase. The latest Kushaq has a total length of 4.25 metres. The SUV has a 188mm ground clearance. The Kushaq has a boot size of 385 litres.

The new Kushaq will be available in two engines: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI engine and a 1.5-litre TSI engine. The 1-litre engine generates 115 horsepower, while the 1.5-litre engine generates 150 horsepower. With the Kushaq, Skoda has only launched petrol engines. With the car, the company will sell both a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission. A seven-speed DSG transmission will also be available for the SUV.

Carbon Steel, Reflex Silver, Candy White, Tornado Red, and Honey Orange are among the five colours available for the new SUV.

2-spoke steering with knurled touches, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, cooled glove box, adjustable rear AC vents, Smartphone pockets in the rear, reflective doorstep, 6-speaker audio system with 1 woofer, and a 10.25-inch touch screen infotainment system are just some of the features available on the Kushaq.

The SUV also has the MySkoda Connect system, which includes trip analysis, safety and security settings, live monitoring, driving behaviour, log, and prompts, among other things.

The Kushaq is equipped with a highly rigid shell, six airbags, ISOFIX mounts, rain and light sensors, auto-dimming IRVMs, and an electronic stability control system.
