- Kia is all set to launch a mid-sized MPV targeted towards Indian customers.
- The MPV codenamed KY will be positioned under the luxurious Kia Carnival.
Kia Motors is all set to explore Indian markets even more extensively. After the success of Kia Sonet and Seltos, the South Korean car manufacturer is planning to introduce a new Multi-purpose vehicle in India next year.
How Is Kia Motors Exploring India?
Since the beginning, Kia Motors has been vocal about its plans of focusing on SUVs and MPVs in the Indian market. The manufacturer has already launched two SUVs (Kia Sonet and Kia Seltos) and an MPV (Kia Carnival) for sale in India.
To add to these three models, Kia is building another MPV especially targeted towards the Indian audience. The new model, codenamed KY, is the second Indian strategic model after Sonet introduced by Motors.
According to reports, the market share of Kia in India increased from 0.08% to 4.2% when it sold 7,503 units in the month of August last year. Considering this exponential growth, the increasing interest of the brand in India is justifiable. This new model of Kia will also explore countries like Thailand and Indonesia along with India.
What Are The Specifications Of Kia KY?
The upcoming 7 seater model will have a platform similar to Seltos and Hyundai Creta, an exclusive report from ElectricVehicleWeb.in suggested.
Kia KY might be designed closest to the upcoming Hyundai MPV model, Staria, which is all set to be launched in the second half of 2021. Hence the price of KY can be estimated accordingly.
Analysing the powertrain of the existing Kia and Hyundai models, the plausible options for KY are a 1.5-liter petrol engine (with 115 PS and 144 Nm) and a 1.5-liter turbo-diesel (115 PS and 250 Nm). For the higher variant, the brand might include a 1.4-liter turbo-petrol engine (140 PS and 242 Nm).
The medium level MPV is built to be positioned below the luxurious Kia Carnival. According to Kia Presentations, around 50,000 units will be retailed to India along with 26,000 units which will be exported overseas. Once released in January 2022, KY might give tough competition to Maruti Ertiga/XL6, Toyota Innova Crysta, and Mahindra Marazzo
