Children Banned From Traveling In Mumbai Local; Women Allowed Only In These Hours
We have been providing you with regular updates by the Maharashtra government on activities regarding Mumbai locals.
Last month on October 21, after a series of on and off rejections, the Railways finally gave in to the Maharashtra government’s requests to start Mumbai locals for women, only during off-peak hours 11am-3 pm and again from 7 pm to end of services.
However, last week on Thursday, Railways issued a directive especially to notify that children will not be allowed to board local trains in Mumbai.
Children Not Allowed in Mumbai Locals
As mentioned above, the Railway board had allowed females to use local train services from October 21, only during off-commute hours.
It had previously been strict about resuming the same for women, claiming that it was wary of crowd control in the absence of modalities.
However, later it came through.
The problem that occurred here, is that since the resumption of locals for females, the Railway ministry noticed that many women were boarding the trains along with their children.
As a result, the Railways have issued a circular stating that from now on, children will not be allowed to board local trains on both Central Railway and Western Railway sections.
Additionally, any female traveller with a child, too shall not be allowed to board the train.
This is done in view of concerns raised by authorities about a threat of a second wave of Covid cases, post Diwali.
While the state government has written to the Railways for opening local trains for the general public too, on October 28, no response has been noted so far.
