Train Delays = No Promotions!
During a recent internal meeting, Railways Minister Piyush Goel lashed out at the officials for rising train delays.
He has issued a stern warning against all Railway officials, and has said that train delays will mean that the officers won’t be getting their promotions.
This is for the first time that any Railway Minister has linked train delays and punctuality of trains with promotions of senior officials.
The Minister said that the officers can no longer use maintenance work as an excuse for train delays.
One of the sources said,
“While the minister has taken a lot of flak for the delays, he knew it was a price he had to pay for the large-scale renewal of tracks. However, the punctuality figures are way worse than what we had expected. Clearly, the zones are using maintenance work as an excuse to hide their inefficiency,”
More than 30% of the trains in 2018 ran late, and among all the zones, Northern Railway fared worst as almost 50% of all trains were late.
