In a bid to compete with Netflix services, Vodafone and Amazon Prime Video India have partnered together to provide its mobile users with seamlessly large array of content – US TV shows, regional movies, kids’ programs and global Amazon Originals.
The first of its kind partnership hopes to gather more active users for Amazon Prime Video platform and will start seeding from March 22.
“This partnership with Amazon Prime Video does just that, further strengthening our content proposition and reiterating our commitment to offering the best to our customers along with unique privileges.” said Sandeep Kataria, Director – Commercial, Vodafone India.
He also added, “It makes available a wide range of latest, high-quality movies and TV shows to our millions of customers, giving them exclusive access to adverse selection of entertainment and rich content with an unparalleled streaming experience on the data strong Vodafone SuperNet 4G network.”
This comes close to heels of Vodafone announcing their merger with Idea Cellular
Prospects
Prime Video, which is primarily a subscription based services is more affordable compared to its contender Netflix. Amazon Prime Video has an annual subscription plan of Rs 499 which works on different platforms- smartphone, tablets, Microsoft Xbox, Sony PlayStation, TV and PC. Netflix on the other hand, has more options but is more expensive.
Prime Video library is quite impressive when compared with Netflix, but still lacks many TV series, especially Indian content.
Looking at the significance of partnership, Prime Video will definitely gather more base as Indian users are gradually consuming more content through internet than set-top box (STB).
“This offer further extends our promise of delivering convenient, on-demand access to our large content selection to our customers,” said Nitesh Kripalani, Director and Country Head, Amazon Prime Video India.
Services and usage
To avail Amazon Prime content, Vodafone users would have to subscribe to a special consumer offer. The subscription can be done through MyVodafone App or Vodafone Website, after subscribing to Amazon Prime.
The annual introductory subscription price is of Rs. 499 only, which provides a cashback of Rs. 250 in Amazon Pay Balance. Currently, the offer is available only for Vodafone customers using Android devices.
