The success of Xiaomi Mi3 has been unprecedented to say the least – there has been a frenzy to buy these phones and thousands of them are flying off the shelves Flipkart in matter of couple of seconds.
Now, Xiaomi has announced availability of it’s next smartphone Redmi 1S in India starting from September 2nd. Like Mi3, Redmi 1S will also be exclusively available on Flipkart. The registrations for the same are starting from August 26th.
Interestingly, like Mi3, Redmi 1S too has been priced much cheaper than what it was priced in countries outside India.
In Singapore, the cost of this phone was S$169, which comes to approximately Rs. 8,200. Even in China it was priced equivalent to Rs. 7000 (approx).
It is not really surprising that India is getting much love from Xiaomi – India is an important market for them and given the way Mi 3 have sold, they now understand the potential that Indian market has for them.
Now, talking about the phone itself – for the price of Rs. 5999, it boasts hardware that would generally demand more than double the price. Infact, I would go one step ahead and say, it is probably more value for money phone than even the Mi 3.
Lets look at the features – Redmi 1S has a 1.6 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with Cortex-A7 core that is coupled with Adreno 305 processor. it has a 4.7 inch IPS display with 312 ppi and resolution of 1280X720.
Infact, there are 2 things that Redmi 1S has that Mi3 did not – expandable storage and dual sim. Both of these features are quite important to many. So anyone who is looking for these features should definitely go for it. The phone has 1GB RAM, 8GB Flash Rom expandable upto 64GB through SD card.
Apart from this Redmi 1S has a 8mp rear camera and 1.6mp front camera that is capable of shooting HD videos. All standard connectivity options are available including 3G, GPRS, Edge, Bluetooth 4.0, AGPS and Wi-Fi. The phone has 2000 mAH battery.
Some of the flagship phones from less than 12 months back have the same specs that Redmi 1S sports. Also, with such specs it can manage to run any apps you throw at it.
Like I have said previously, this might be THE MOST value for money phone available in Indian market today!
