The centre has decided that Vedic Mathematics will now be integrated into National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks for classes 6 to 8 in Uttar Pradesh under a major academic reform.

Vadic Maths Integration With NCERT Textbooks
With this move, they are planning to align the national curriculum with regional educational priorities across government-run schools in the state.
This appears to be a part of a broader initiative as the officials from the basic education department confirmed that the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Uttar Pradesh, has issued formal instructions to incorporate Vedic Math content into the NCERT curriculum.
The further implementation will be overseen by the experts from the Prayagraj-based State Institute of Science Education (SISE), who are tasked with curriculum development.
It’s a huge task as it would be affecting over 30 lakh students of classes 6 to 8 studying in government-run upper primary and composite (classes 1 to 8) schools across Uttar Pradesh.
How Does This Help ?
When it comes to Vedic Maths, it’s a complement-modern pedagogy which is aimed to provide students with a holistic education that blends modern mathematical concepts with the timeless methods of Vedic Mathematics.
Basically, it won’t be an exaggeration to say that Vedic Maths is deeply rooted in India’s rich knowledge traditions.
“We are upgrading the NCERT textbooks to integrate Vedic Mathematics. This will help students connect with India’s intellectual heritage while strengthening their mathematical aptitude,” said Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi, SISE director while talking about the initiative.
If we see the present NCERT mathematics book “Ganit Prakash”, which is used in Classes 6 to 8, it is especially known for its quality and structured approach.
Although, this book doesn’t have any content related to Vedic Mathematics.
Contrary to this, the “Ganit Manthan” textbooks, used under the UP Basic Education Board, contain only limited references to Vedic techniques.
But now they have started to fill these gaps by deciding to launch the new revisions in both Hindi and English medium textbooks.
They are also planning to prepare Model papers for Classes 11 and 12.
In this regard, the PRAYAGRAJ Subject experts from the State Institute of Science Education will be preparing 25 model papers.
They will be preparing these papers, each for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology students belonging to the Science stream of Classes 11 and 12 studying in schools affiliated to UP Board.
If we consider the earlier situation, the model papers were developed for Classes 9 and 10.
But, it is for the first time, the responsibility of creating question papers for Classes 11 and 12 has also been entrusted to the institute, said the Director of the State Institute of Science Education Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi.
