The way Indians buy laptops is changing rapidly.
A new consumer intelligence study by Techarc reveals that buyers are increasingly prioritizing real-world experiences such as battery life, thermal efficiency, premium design, and on-device artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities over traditional specifications like processor speed and hardware configurations.

The study analyzed more than 5,000 verified consumer reviews across 95 laptop models powered by Intel, AMD, and Snapdragon processors. The findings indicate that modern consumers are bringing smartphone-like expectations to the laptop category, fundamentally reshaping the market.
Smartphones Are Influencing Laptop Expectations
One of the most significant findings of the report is that 88% of laptop users say their expectations are influenced by their smartphone experiences. Consumers now expect laptops to offer all-day battery life, instant responsiveness, efficient performance, and lightweight designs.
What was once considered a premium feature is increasingly becoming a baseline expectation. Buyers want devices that can remain unplugged throughout the day, stay cool under heavy workloads, and provide seamless user experiences similar to modern smartphones.
Battery Performance Emerges As A Key Differentiator
The study found that battery satisfaction shows the largest variation among different processor platforms. Since consumers increasingly value mobility and productivity, battery endurance has become one of the most important factors influencing purchase decisions.
Laptops that can consistently deliver long-lasting battery performance are earning higher satisfaction scores, making energy-efficient processor architectures a major competitive advantage.
AI Features Gain Importance
Another emerging trend highlighted in the report is the growing importance of on-device AI capabilities. While AI-related mentions are still relatively new compared to traditional laptop features, consumers are beginning to view AI-powered experiences as a key differentiator.
Industry experts believe AI will become one of the most important battlegrounds in future laptop competition, with processor manufacturers investing heavily in dedicated AI capabilities.
Processor Platforms Show Distinct Strengths
The study indicates that different processor platforms excel in different areas. Snapdragon reportedly leads in battery efficiency, thermal management, premium design experience, and AI-related performance. AMD continues to perform strongly in value-for-money and gaming-focused workloads, while Intel benefits from its broad market presence and established ecosystem.
Importantly, all three platforms achieved positive Net Promoter Scores, suggesting overall consumer satisfaction remains strong across the market.
The Future Of Laptop Buying
As consumer preferences evolve, laptop manufacturers may need to focus less on raw specifications and more on delivering meaningful everyday experiences. The next generation of buyers appears increasingly interested in efficiency, mobility, AI integration, and premium usability.
Summary
A new Techarc study reveals that Indian laptop buyers are prioritizing battery life, thermal efficiency, premium design, and AI capabilities over traditional hardware specifications. Influenced by smartphone experiences, consumers increasingly expect all-day performance and seamless usability. The report highlights growing demand for efficiency-focused computing, with processor platforms competing on real-world user experience rather than raw technical specifications alone.
