Mahindra has increased the prices of its popular lifestyle SUV, the Mahindra Thar, for the second time in 2026. After a price revision in January, the latest hike—effective April—pushes prices up by as much as ₹43,500 depending on the variant. This move aligns with the company’s broader strategy to offset rising input and production costs.

Entry-Level Variant Remains Unchanged
Despite the price hike, Mahindra has kept the base variant unchanged. The AXT 1.5L diesel rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version continues to start at ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most accessible options in the off-road SUV segment. This pricing strategy ensures the Thar remains attractive to entry-level buyers.
Biggest Price Jump for Top Variants
The most significant increase has been seen in the higher-end LXT variants. The top-spec 2.2L diesel 4WD automatic variant now costs ₹17.62 lakh, up by ₹43,500. Other variants have also witnessed hikes ranging from ₹30,500 to ₹41,500, depending on engine and drivetrain combinations.
Variant-Wise Impact
Interestingly, Mahindra has largely shielded the base trims from price changes while revising only the LXT variants. For example:
- LXT 1.5L diesel RWD MT: up by ₹30,500
- LXT 2.0L petrol 4WD AT: up by ₹41,500
- LXT 2.2L diesel 4WD MT: up by ₹39,500
This selective pricing approach indicates a focus on maintaining affordability at the entry level while optimizing margins on premium variants.
Facelift Launch Around the Corner
The price hike comes at a time when Mahindra is preparing to launch a facelifted version of the Thar. Spy shots suggest updates like LED headlights, new DRLs, redesigned bumpers, and interior upgrades such as a larger infotainment system and ventilated seats. The upcoming launch could further push prices upward.
What This Means for Buyers
For prospective buyers, the Thar remains a strong choice in the lifestyle SUV segment despite the price increase. However, with consecutive hikes in a short period, customers may consider booking sooner rather than later—especially before the facelift arrives, which could bring additional price revisions.
