Jio Financial Services reported a 51% year-on-year decline in net profit for the September quarter of FY27, even as its lending business expanded rapidly and revenue from operations increased substantially. The company posted a net profit of Rs 340 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, compared with Rs 695 crore in the corresponding period last year.

The decline came despite strong growth across its financial services businesses, highlighting the impact of higher costs and the absence of a significant dividend income recorded a year earlier.

Revenue from Operations Jumps 73%

Jio Financial Services reported revenue from operations of Rs 1,699 crore in the September quarter, up 73% from Rs 981 crore in the same quarter last year.

Its operating profit before provisions, excluding dividend income, rose 85% year-on-year to Rs 574 crore. This measure provides a clearer picture of the performance of its underlying operations, particularly its expanding lending business.

However, net profit fell because the year-ago quarter included dividend income of Rs 269 crore, which was not repeated in the latest period. Higher costs also weighed on the overall financial performance.

Jio Credit Lending Business Expands Rapidly

Jio Credit, the company’s lending arm, continued to record strong growth. Its gross assets under management surged 154% year-on-year to Rs 37,320 crore.

Net interest income, which represents the difference between interest earned on loans and interest paid on borrowings, more than doubled to Rs 302 crore.

The expansion reflects the company’s growing presence in India’s credit market, where demand for personal loans, business financing and other borrowing products has supported lending activity.

In August 2026, Bank of America agreed to invest up to $1.9 billion for a 49.9% stake in Jio Credit, signalling interest in the company’s lending operations and the broader Indian credit market.

BlackRock Partnership Strengthens Asset Management

Jio Financial’s asset management joint venture with global investment manager BlackRock also reported growth. Assets under management increased 57% year-on-year to Rs 22,746 crore.

The partnership is part of Jio Financial’s broader strategy to build a diversified financial services business spanning lending, payments, insurance distribution and asset management.

The company benefits from its association with Reliance Industries and the wider Jio ecosystem as it expands its financial products and customer reach.

What Lies Ahead for Jio Financial Services?

The latest results present a mixed picture. The decline in reported profit may concern investors, but strong growth in lending assets, net interest income and operating profit suggests that the company’s core financial services operations are expanding.

The key challenge will be converting this growth into sustainable profitability while managing borrowing costs, operating expenses and competition in India’s financial services market.

Investors will also watch how quickly the company scales its newer businesses and whether growth in operating income can translate into stronger net earnings in the coming quarters.

Summary

Jio Financial Services reported a 51% year-on-year fall in September-quarter net profit to Rs 340 crore, despite a 73% rise in revenue from operations to Rs 1,699 crore. Operating profit before provisions and excluding dividend income increased 85%. Jio Credit’s assets under management surged 154%, while the BlackRock joint venture’s assets under management grew 57%.
