Reliance Jio’s broadband business is witnessing strong growth partly due to the increasing deployment of non-line-of-sight (NLoS) wireless broadband hardware, according to a telecom industry report.

The report stated that Jio is expanding broadband connectivity using wireless access equipment capable of delivering internet services without requiring direct line-of-sight connections between towers and customer premises.
Focus On Faster Broadband Expansion
According to the report, non-line-of-sight technology allows broadband operators to deploy internet services more quickly in dense urban zones, semi-urban regions, and areas where laying fiber cables may be difficult or expensive.
The hardware uses wireless spectrum and advanced signal propagation systems to provide connectivity even when buildings, trees, or physical structures obstruct direct signal paths.
Industry observers said this approach could help accelerate broadband penetration across underserved locations.
Jio Expands Fixed Wireless Access Push
The report highlighted Jio’s increasing focus on Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services under JioAirFiber, which uses 5G-based wireless broadband technology instead of traditional wired fiber connections.
Unlike conventional fiber broadband that requires physical cable installation to homes, FWA systems can deliver internet services wirelessly using rooftop or indoor receiver units.
The report noted that NLoS hardware is becoming increasingly important for improving indoor coverage and network reach in challenging urban environments.
Broadband Subscriber Growth Continues
Jio has remained India’s largest broadband and wireless data provider by subscriber base. The company has continued adding new home broadband users through both fiber and wireless broadband offerings.
Industry data showed strong growth in wireline broadband and fixed wireless broadband adoption across India over the past two years as demand for streaming, gaming, remote work, and AI-powered applications increased.
Telecom Industry Shifts Toward Wireless Broadband
The report suggested that telecom companies are increasingly using wireless broadband technologies to complement traditional fiber networks because wireless deployment can reduce rollout time and infrastructure costs.
Fixed Wireless Access has emerged as a major focus area globally, especially in markets where fiber deployment remains slow or economically challenging.
Several telecom operators worldwide are now combining fiber backbones with wireless last-mile broadband delivery systems.
Hardware Ecosystem Expands
According to the report, growth in Jio’s broadband business is also supporting demand for customer-premises equipment, signal boosters, routers, antennas, and wireless broadband infrastructure.
Telecom equipment vendors are increasingly developing hardware optimized for non-line-of-sight performance and high-capacity 5G broadband delivery.
The broader telecom sector is also focusing on improving indoor signal penetration, lower latency, and higher-speed wireless connectivity as broadband consumption rises.
Competition Intensifies In Broadband Market
India’s broadband market has become increasingly competitive with Airtel, BSNL, ACT Fibernet, and regional ISPs also expanding fiber and wireless broadband services.
Industry analysts expect wireless broadband and FWA services to play a major role in connecting millions of additional homes and businesses over the coming years.
Summary
A telecom industry report said Jio’s broadband growth is being supported by increasing deployment of non-line-of-sight wireless broadband hardware and Fixed Wireless Access technology. The systems allow internet connectivity without direct signal visibility, helping faster expansion in dense urban and underserved regions. The report highlighted growing industry focus on wireless broadband as telecom companies expand high-speed internet access across India.
