In a shocking revelation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has busted what it describes as India’s largest medical college scam, impacting over 40 colleges across six states. Here are the key facts:

1. Scam Spanned Across 6 States
The scam affected medical colleges in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka. Raids were conducted in over 40 locations as part of the nationwide investigation.
2. High-Profile Accused Named
The FIR names 35 individuals, including former UGC Chairman DP Singh, godman Ravishankar Maharaj (Rawatpura Sarkar), and Suresh Singh Bhadoria of Index Medical College. Several senior bureaucrats and intermediaries are also under investigation.
3. Modus Operandi: Bribes, Fakes, and Leaks
The network used dummy faculty, fake inspections, ghost patients, and leaked internal files to get regulatory approvals. Bribes routed via hawala and banking channels ensured favourable reports from the National Medical Commission (NMC).
4. Godman’s Deep Political Links
Ravishankar Maharaj, a self-styled godman, played a key role in the scam. His name in the FIR and photos with top IAS, IPS, and political figures point to the dangerous intersection of religious influence and corruption.
5. Southern India Nexus
Dummy staff and patients were arranged in states like Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Institutions such as Father Colombo Institute of Medical Sciences allegedly paid Rs 3–5 crore for guaranteed clearances.
6. Former Medical Board Member Was A Middleman
Jitu Lal Meena, ex-member of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), helped orchestrate the bribes. Some illicit funds were even used to build a temple in Rajasthan.
7. Legal Action Underway
The CBI has filed cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. So far, only one arrest has been made—Atul Tiwari, director of SRIMSR Raipur. Investigations are ongoing.
This scam not only endangers India’s public health system but also shatters trust in its medical education infrastructure.
