Food Delivery Comes to Cinema Seats

Moviegoers may no longer need to leave their seats or stand in long queues to grab food during a film. Swiggy Dineout has launched a new ‘Order-in-Cinemas’ feature that allows customers to browse cinema menus, order food and make payments directly from their seats.

The service has been introduced in partnership with Cinepolis and Asian Cinemas across multiple screens, bringing Swiggy’s dining-out platform into the cinema experience.

How the New Feature Works

The process is designed around four simple steps: Scan, Browse, Order & Pay, and Delivery.

Moviegoers can scan a QR code placed inside the cinema hall. This opens the cinema’s food menu through the Swiggy Dineout platform, where customers can select their preferred food and beverages, place the order and complete the payment.

Once the order is confirmed, the food is delivered directly to the customer’s seat. This eliminates the need to walk out during a movie or wait at a concession counter.

The service is also expected to offer discounts, making the ordering experience more convenient for customers.

More Than Just Food Ordering

Swiggy Dineout’s cinema integration goes beyond food. For participating Cinepolis and Asian Cinemas locations, users can also access information about upcoming movie releases, trailers, posters, ticket-booking links, special screenings, events and promotional offers.

This turns the Dineout interface into an additional digital touchpoint between cinemas and their customers.

Cinemas Could Benefit From Higher Spending

The service is also designed to create a new revenue opportunity for cinema operators. By allowing customers to order directly from their seats, cinemas can potentially encourage more food and beverage purchases.

Cinemas can recommend personalised food combinations and promote additional items through upselling and cross-selling. The system can therefore help increase average spending per moviegoer while making the ordering process easier.

Technology Partners Power the Service

To make the system work with existing cinema infrastructure, Swiggy Dineout has partnered with Impact, a point-of-sale aggregation platform owned and operated by UFO Moviez, as well as Showbizz, a cinema software solutions provider.

The integration with additional point-of-sale aggregators is currently underway, potentially allowing the service to expand across more cinema screens in the future.

Swiggy Dineout Expands Beyond Restaurants

The launch represents a broader expansion for Swiggy Dineout, which has traditionally focused on restaurant discovery, table reservations, dining discounts and payments.

With cinema food ordering, the platform is entering the entertainment space and creating a new use case for its technology. For moviegoers, the biggest attraction is convenience, while cinemas gain another channel to engage customers and generate food and beverage sales.

If the rollout expands successfully, ordering snacks from a cinema seat could become a more common part of the movie-going experience.

Summary

Swiggy Dineout has launched ‘Order-in-Cinemas’, allowing moviegoers at participating Cinepolis and Asian Cinemas locations to scan a QR code, browse menus, order food and pay directly from their seats. The service aims to eliminate queues, improve convenience and help cinemas increase food and beverage sales through personalised combos, upselling and cross-selling.
