TCS Expands Its Automotive Technology Footprint

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is set to acquire 100% of MHP Management- und IT-Beratung GmbH, Porsche AG’s management and IT consulting subsidiary, for an enterprise value of €320 million, or roughly ₹3,570 crore.

The deal will give TCS greater access to specialised expertise in automotive consulting, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, SAP, manufacturing digitalisation and software-defined mobility. The acquisition is expected to be completed within the next three to four months, subject to regulatory approvals.

MHP Brings Automotive Expertise

MHP is a Germany-based consulting and technology company with around 4,500 employees and a strong presence across Germany, India, the UK, the US, Mexico and Romania.

The company generated approximately €742 million in turnover in 2025. Its capabilities span business consulting, AI, connected mobility, manufacturing digitalisation and software-defined products, making it a strategically relevant acquisition for TCS as automotive companies increasingly invest in software and AI.

For TCS, acquiring MHP is about more than adding another consulting business. It provides access to a specialised automotive technology workforce and established customer relationships in one of Europe’s most important industrial sectors.

A €1.25 Billion Partnership With Porsche

The acquisition comes alongside a much larger five-year strategic partnership between TCS and Porsche valued at €1.25 billion.

Under the agreement, TCS and MHP will support Porsche’s adoption of AI across engineering, manufacturing, operations, customer experience and broader enterprise transformation. TCS will also establish a dedicated AI Mobility Centre of Excellence focused on developing and scaling AI applications across the automotive value chain.

The structure gives TCS both specialised automotive capabilities through MHP and a major long-term technology relationship with Porsche.

Why the Deal Matters for TCS

The acquisition strengthens TCS’s position in automotive and industrial technology at a time when manufacturers are rapidly shifting towards software-defined vehicles, connected systems and AI-powered operations.

It also expands TCS’s consulting capabilities in the European market, particularly in Germany, where automotive manufacturing remains a major industry.

The company has been increasing its acquisition activity to build capabilities beyond traditional IT services. MHP is TCS’s third major acquisition in less than a year, following its purchases of Coastal Cloud and ListEngage. With the latest transaction, TCS has spent more than $1 billion on acquisitions over roughly 10 months.

Porsche Focuses on Its Core Business

For Porsche, transferring MHP to TCS is part of a strategy to concentrate more closely on its core automotive business while continuing to access advanced technology and consulting capabilities.

The partnership allows Porsche to retain access to MHP’s expertise while shifting ownership of the consulting business to a company whose core business is technology and digital transformation.

The deal therefore creates a broader relationship in which TCS gains a specialised automotive platform, while Porsche gains a long-term technology partner for its AI and digital transformation ambitions.

A Strategic Bet on AI and Mobility

The TCS-MHP transaction reflects how the automotive industry is increasingly becoming a technology-driven sector. AI, software-defined vehicles, connected mobility and digital manufacturing are becoming central to how automakers design, produce and operate vehicles.

For TCS, the acquisition could provide a stronger platform to compete for high-value automotive technology contracts globally. The immediate financial impact may be modest relative to the size of TCS, but the strategic value lies in combining MHP’s industry expertise with TCS’s scale, engineering capabilities and AI portfolio.

Summary

Tata Consultancy Services will acquire Porsche’s IT consulting subsidiary MHP for €320 million, gaining around 4,500 employees and expertise in automotive technology, AI, SAP and digital manufacturing. The acquisition accompanies a five-year €1.25 billion strategic partnership with Porsche focused on AI transformation. The deal strengthens TCS’s position in European automotive technology and software-defined mobility while allowing Porsche to focus on its core business.
