The groundwork for the 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) has officially started, with the government initiating the hiring of consultants to support salary, allowance, and pension reviews for central government employees and pensioners. The move marks an important early step toward the next major pay revision cycle expected to impact millions across India.

Government Starts Preparations For 8th Pay Commission

The government has invited applications for consultant positions under the 8th Pay Commission on a contractual basis. These professionals will assist the commission in research, policy analysis, compensation studies, and pension-related assessments.

According to reports, the commission plans to adopt a more data-driven approach while reviewing salary structures, allowances, and retirement benefits of central government employees. Experts hired for the process will also help evaluate the financial impact of potential revisions.

What Will The Consultants Do?

The selected consultants will play a major role in analyzing existing compensation systems across ministries and departments. Their responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing salaries, pensions, and allowances
  • Studying compensation trends and government expenditure
  • Conducting legal and policy research
  • Preparing reports and presentations
  • Coordinating with ministries and departments for data collection

The consultants will also help estimate the fiscal burden of any proposed pay hike recommendations.

Three Categories Of Consultant Roles

The recruitment drive includes three different categories of consultants:

Senior Consultant

  • Experience Required: 10+ years
  • Age Limit: 45 years
  • Salary: Up to ₹1.8 lakh per month

Consultant

  • Experience Required: 6+ years
  • Age Limit: 40 years
  • Salary: Up to ₹1.2 lakh per month

Young Professional

  • Experience Required: 4+ years
  • Age Limit: 32 years
  • Salary: Up to ₹90,000 per month

The positions are contractual and may be offered on both full-time and part-time basis. No additional benefits such as DA, accommodation, or transport allowances will be provided.

Why 8th Pay Commission Matters

The 8th Pay Commission is expected to recommend revisions in salaries, pensions, and allowances for central government employees and pensioners. Employee bodies have already started preparing proposals related to higher fitment factors, pension reforms, and revised gratuity limits.

Although no official timeline for salary hikes has been announced yet, the consultant hiring process indicates that preparations for the next pay revision cycle are now actively underway.
