Airbus has selected Nagpur in Maharashtra for South Asia’s first comprehensive aircraft radome repair facility, strengthening India’s growing position as an aviation maintenance and aerospace services hub.
The facility will be established in partnership with Indamer Technics, an Indian aircraft maintenance company, and will provide specialised support for Airbus aircraft operating across the region.
What Is a Radome?
A radome is the protective structure covering an aircraft’s weather and navigation radar, located at the front of the aircraft. While it protects sensitive radar equipment from weather and other external conditions, it must also allow radar signals to pass through with minimal interference.
Damage to a radome can therefore require specialised inspection, repair or replacement before an aircraft can return to service.
A320 to A380 Aircraft Covered
Under the agreement, Indamer Technics has been designated as an authorised facility for the repair, storage and exchange of Airbus radomes.
The facility will support radomes used on the A320, A330, A350 and A380 aircraft families, giving airlines in South Asia access to these specialised services closer to their operating bases.
The move is particularly significant as airlines across the region expand their fleets and introduce more wide-body aircraft.
Faster Aircraft Turnaround
One of the biggest advantages of establishing the capability in India will be shorter turnaround times for airlines.
Currently, specialised component repairs may require equipment or parts to be sent to facilities outside the region. Having an authorised radome repair centre in Nagpur can reduce logistical delays and allow aircraft to return to service more quickly.
For airlines, faster component repair can translate into better aircraft utilisation and fewer disruptions to scheduled operations.
Nagpur’s Growing Aerospace Ecosystem
Nagpur has been developing into an important aerospace and aviation-services centre, particularly around the MIHAN project and Nagpur airport.
The city already hosts aerospace manufacturing and maintenance-related activities, making the Airbus-Indamer partnership another addition to its growing ecosystem.
