Hyundai is now planning to discontinue its entry-level Santro hatchback in India.
Reports are that the company might introduce a new mini/micro SUV in the same price range.
Hyundai Discontinues Santro; Will Introduce New Mini SUV In Its Place?
In short, there might be a new mini SUV from Hyundai that will be priced starting from Rs. 5 lakh.
The entry-level Santro has been discontinued by Hyundai and has also stopped production of the car at the Tamil Nadu plant of Hyundai. This is the second time that the Hyundai Santro has been pulled off the shelves in India.
There is a mini/micro SUV by Hyundai, as per rumors go, and this will be pitted against the Tata Punch and the upcoming Citroen C3.
There also is news that the model will come with the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engine options. The car might also be offered with the CNG version. Apparently, these powertrains will be borrowed from the Grand i10 Nios. Some more details about the car will be revealed later.
Recently, we shared that a leaked document suggests that Hyundai dealerships have been asked to halt bookings of selected variants of the Creta and Venue. It seems that the bookings for the Creta Diesel SX AT have been suspended.
At the same time, sales of the Venue Petrol S(O) IMT, SX(O) IMT, SX(O) IMT Dual Tone as well as Venue Diesel SX(O) and SX(O) Dual Tone have also been stopped.
Santro And Other Hyundai Cars Get 2 Stars For Adult Occupant Protection
For adult occupant protection from Global NCAP in the latest round of crash tests, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Santro got 2 stars in 2020 and 2019 respectively, while the Eon had zero stars in 2016.
The first i10 had also got a zero star score in 2014 – in the first round of crash tests for Indian made cars.
Hyundai has discontinued 7 variants of Venue and 2 variants of Creta, as per the notification sent to dealers. Out of these 7 Venue variants, 5 belong to 1.0 turbo petrol and 2 are of 1.5 liter diesel.
The discontinued Venue petrol 1.0 L variants are S(O) DCT, SX+ DCT Dual Tone, S(O) IMT, SX(O) IMT, and SX(O) Dual Tone IMT. Similarly, the discontinued Venue diesel variants are S(O) and SX(O) Dual Tone.
In case of Creta discontinued variants, one is powered by petrol 1.4 liter turbo and the other is powered by diesel 1.5 liter, where the former is Creta SX DCT and latter is Creta SX AT.
