Design
In India, it will be available in three variants –- C200, C200d, and top-end C300d.
In terms of design, this one falls in between the E-class and smaller sedans such as the A-class Limousine and the CLA (in international markets).
It is larger than its predecessor with a heightened wheelbase of 25mm creating more room for occupants.
Interior Features
The cabin derives inspiration from the new S-class which gets a large 11.9-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Lower variants settle for a smaller 10.25-inch instrument display and a 9.5-inch touchscreen.
Mercedes India’s website reveals that the new Baby S also packs in the firm’s MBUX system and Mercedes’s Digital Headlights.
Powered front seats with memory function are also part of the package.
The general list of features will include multi-zone climate control, sunroof, engine modes, ventilated seats, touch control on steering and more.
Engine, Variants, Transmission
The website also reveals the three engine options- C200 (petrol), C200d (diesel) and the top-end C300d (diesel).
Coming to the powertrain, the newbie gets a 2.0-litre turbo petrol making 201bhp.
And of the diesel engines, C220d will use a 197bhp 2.0-litre unit while the top-end C300d will use the same engine tuned to 261bhp.
All these engines will come paired with mild-hybrid tech using a 48V motor and a standard 9-speed automatic transmission.
Future Plans
It plans to roll out 10 new products this year and will locally assemble its all-electric sedan EQS as a part of its push toward electrification.
This will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2022.
It already has the all-electric EQC in India but it arrived as a fully imported unit in October 2020.
Earlier this month it registered a 26 per cent year-on-year growth in sales at 4,022 units, propelled by the E-class Long Wheel Base and GLC SUV.
Booking, Competition, Price
Bookings for the new C-class are currently open for all existing Mercedes customers from 13-30th April 2022.
New customers can place their bookings from May 1 by paying Rs 50,000.
When it arrives, the BMW 3 Series, Volvo S60, Audi A4 and the Jaguar XE can expect a tough fight.
Pricing is set to be between Rs 45-50 lakh.
