War Of Satellite Internet Starts Between Airtel & Jio: Find Out Why? Who Will Win?
Reliance Jio Infocomm and Bharti Airtel have again clashed, this time over the regulation of satellite tv for pc broadband providers.
Auctioning Satellite Spectrum
Jio wants the federal government to sell satellite broadband service providers spectrum and hold them to the same security standards as telcos, while Sunil Mittal, chairman of Airtel, says “there is no basis for auctioning satellite spectrum.”
Since satellite tv for pc operators, like telcos, will present high-speed broadband providers, they should be mandated by the federal government to supply providers via the identical licensing framework, Mathew Oommen, president at Reliance Jio Infocomm, stated on Friday.
As a result, he said at the ET Telecom India Mobile Conclave 2021 that all satcom players should not be permitted to access top-grade spectrum worth billions without auctions and must adhere to the same security requirements as carriers
“The principle of ‘same service, same rules and same fees’ must apply to satellite communications service providers, and there is no case for zero regulation and (accessing) free spectrum since India is a spectrum-constrained nation,” Oommen stated. Such a situation, he stated, might result in “major revenue losses for the national exchequer”.

Direct Battle With The Views
This is in direct battle with the views of Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Mittal, who had just lately stated auctioning satellite tv for pc spectrum “would not be in tune with global norms”.
There has never been a public auction for satellite tv for pc spectrum elsewhere in the world because it isn’t a terrestrial spectrum and won’t be used in all areas of the country, only in two satellite tv for pc touchdown stations in certain areas, he added.
He said that satellite tv for pc operations had been around for 100 years and that all satellites were already using it.
