Could This Be A WagonR Based EV?
Rumors say that the vehicle might be rebadged as Toyota when it goes on sale.
While the latest spy shots suggest otherwise as the Maruti Suzuki logo is clearly visible.
So, now the expectation is that the new electric vehicle will come as a Maruti Suzuki vehicle when it is launched in our country.
Designs And Aesthetics Changes
The images also suggest that the overall design and the proportions of the electric vehicle are very similar to WagonR.
So, it is argued that the new EV could be based on the WagonR.
Since it has an overall squarish look with a tall boy design to ensure there is ample space for the occupants.
Although, the front fascia has been completely redesigned to look modern and can easily be differentiated from the regular WagonR.
This new design comes with a split headlamp set up as per the pictures.
It is clearly shown that the upper black strip houses the turn indicators while the lower unit has the main headlamp unit.
A black strip joining both the turn indicators further housing the Maruti Suzuki logo.
In a close look, we can see a blue surrounding around the logo which signifies that this is an electric vehicle.
Projector Setup
Moving ahead, the headlamp unit is expected to be a projector setup. Although, it is yet not clear that if Maruti Suzuki will be using halogens or LEDs for the lights.
There is also the absence of a traditional front grille since there is no engine under the bonnet that needs cooling.
But, there is a slim air dam in the lower half of the bumper to cool down the electric components and also houses fog lamps to increase visibility.
If we talk about the side profile, then it is quite similar to the WagonR.
It seems that the alloy wheels are derived from the Ignis and are blacked out which goes well with the white color of the hatchback.
Changes In Rear
The up-right tailgate At the rear is just like we have seen on the WagonR.
It has blacked-out tail lamps that are placed vertically.
It seems that the bumper is new with a black insert and there are also two vertical reflectors placed in the bumper.
The model also comes with a rear wiper, two rear parking sensors and a high-mounted stop lamp.
Interior Changes
Some minor changes can be expected in the interior of the EV. Like, it will come with automatic climate control, a different gear shifter and a slightly different instrument console.
The instrument cluster will be adapted for an electric vehicle so it is expected to show the battery and driving range.
The model is also expected to offer the EV with the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system that comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
For this EV, pricing and driving range will be the elements to make it successful in India although the biggest hurdles are the missing charging infrastructure in India.
