Maruti Suzuki will now be making its grand entry into the electric car market of India. And for its debut, Maruti Suzuki will now be launching its very popular 5 seater Hatchback, WagonR.

Maruti Suzuki To Introduce Electric Vehicle: Will It Be The WagonR?
A Facebook page has shared the pictures of the production-ready unit of the WagonR EV, and as per the pictures, the hatchback is white in color and it also looks very much like the regular WagonR cars. It also comes with a prominent branding at the front and the rear.
The car was also sighted previously during the testing on the roads of Haryana’s Gurugram last year.
As per reports, at least initially, Maruti Suzuki had also confirmed that the WagonR EV will be Limited to fleets and commercial operators. There also are speculations that the wagonR will enter the Indian market in August or September this year. The car Will probably be launched with a price range that will start at Rs. 9 lakhs.
There also is the possibility that Maruti Suzuki will be launching some more Electrically powered cars in the near future.
Govt’s Push For Electric Vehicles
The government of India is pushing the use of electric vehicles in order to promote a greener environment.
Recently, Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari, revealed the centre’s plans to promote e-transportation while addressing a virtual conference recently. He stated that the government is planning to upgrade the infrastructure of 69,000 petrol pumps to make them suitable for electric vehicles. This is one of the initiatives outlined by the government to boost the usage of EVs among Indians.
Recently, the Govt has ordered that all Govt. officials in New Delhi will have to use only electric vehicles from now on. The Power Ministry has ordered all central government departments and Public Sector Units located in the National Capital to only use electric vehicles from now on.
The Govt wants 30% of all vehicles to be electric by 2030, and this announcement related to the mandatory use of electric vehicles is a big push.
This rule mandates all travel to be in electric mode, within NCR.
