Airtel Beats Jio Again! Airtel Gained 69 Lakh New Users, Jio Lost 35 Lakh Users
According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), the number of active subscribers, as per the latest subscriber data has increased to 979 million in January, from 3.3 million.
The biggest spike in the subscriber base number is led by Bharti Airtel, with an addition of 6.9 million active subscribers. At the same time, Reliance Jio has seen a fall of 3.5 million active subscribers in the same period.
Vodafone Idea has witnessed a gross subscribers base increase by1.7 million.
Bharti Airtel Ltd Adds Over 6 Million Subscribers
Airtel continues to lead the subscriber market, as shown by TRAI’s latest subscriber data.
It has added a total of 6.9 million active subscribers to its list, taking the total count to 336 million in January.
Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, a domestic brokerage house has reported that Airtel has continuously been improving the numbers of its subscriber base in the last 6 months.
“The company added a total of 29 million active subscribers since May 2020. With this, it has regained its top spot in terms of active subscriber market share (SMS) at 34.3%. The quality of subscriber additions is reflected in its strong 5.5 million 4G additions taking up 59% incremental SMS.”, said Motilal OSwal in a report on March 17.
Analysts at Emkay Global Financial Services Ltd too believe that due to an increase in Airtel’s subscriber base in Q3FY21 and Q4FY21, its revenue mix and ARPU have improved without a tariff hike.
Jio’s Fall in Subscriber Base Number
Reliance Jio witnessed a loss of 3.5 million active subscribers, bringing down its number to 325 million.
This is the largest loss in active subscribers for Reliance Jio since the peak of the pandemic in April last year.
Motilal Oswal Financial Services have pointed out a slowdown in Jio’s gross subscriber addition run-rate for the past 6 months.
