Airtel Adds 40 Lakh New Users In 30 Days, Jio Manages Only 4.7 Lakh; Vi Loses 56 Lakh Users
According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s Telecom Subscription Report for December 2020, released on February 18, 2021, as per which the total wireless subscribers reduced from 1,155.20 million in November 30, 2020 to l ,173.83 million on December 31, 2021, marking a monthly decline rate of 0.12%.
Vodafone Idea Loses 56 Lakh Users
The Telecom Subscription Report also highlighted the performances of the country’s five service providers, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, reliance Jio, BSNL and MTNL.
The report depicted that Vodafone Idea lost a total of 5.6 million active users by December 2020, ending the year with a user base of 269 million.
On the list of the 5 service providers, Vi stands second on the number of active subscribers on its network, constituting 90.26%, followed by Reliance Jio with only 80.21% active subscribers on its network.
Airtel Outperforms All
Bharti Airtel’s performance for December 2020 was extraordinary compared to its rivals.
The telco added over four million new users, forming 336 million users by the end of last year.
The report also added that Airtel’s total subscriber base is about 338.71 million, of which 328.87 million users, i.e. 97.10% of them are active users, making it the telco with the highest number of active users.
Speaking of Mobile Number Portability (MNP), the data showed that in the month of Dec 2020, a total of 8.20 new million requests were received for MNP.
Of these, a large number of Vi and BSNL users ported out to Airtel’s network.
All in all, Airtel appears to be the best-positioned service provider, as per the report data.
Jio Still the Market Leader
In terms of market share, Reliance Jio stands tall with a total of 35.43% share, followed by AIrtel with 29.36% share and Vodafone Idea with 24.64% share.
However, in terms of newer subscribers for the month of December 2020, Jio added only 478,917 users, as compared to Airtel’s four million new users.
It appears like Jio’s trend of slower addition of new customer base still continues.
BSNL lost a total of 2.5 lakh existing users.
