Vivo Z1X Unboxing & Quick Review

Vivo has launched another budget superhouse in the country under its latest Z series, the Vivo Z1X. Vivo Z1 Pro has been a huge success, and it continues to do well in the sub-15,000 segment. The new Z1X smartphone starts at Rs 16,990 in the midrange category.

Vivo Z1X packs in a triple rear camera system featuring a 48MP Sony sensor as primary lens along with a water drop notched styled AMOLED display.

The phone will come with a powerful hardware, new display, big battery, fast charging and much more. We got the device, and we tested all the features for quick review. Here’s a short and detailed review of all the Vivo Z1X features and specs.

Build & Design: Good Enough?

Vivo Z1X comes with a high-quality polycarbonate body. It’s plastic, but does feel premium. The high quality polycarbonate built is backed by some of the striking gradient colour schemes made to look like glass. The sides are properly curved, and are very similar to the current Z1 Pro.

As an upgrade, the smartphone comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The colour mixes are stylish, but a glass body would have been better.

In terms of looks and build quality, both Vivo Z1X does an above average job here. In all, it’s good and feels good to be used. The overall ergonomics are perfect, while the new 3D curves make it really easy to hold.

Display: Notched AMOLED Panel

Vivo Z1X will come with a 6.38-inch Full-HD Super AMOLED display with a notch. The Z-series device this time has a water drop notch instead of a hole on the screen. This increases the screen-to-body ratio of the device and offers a more enhanced immersive viewing experience.

The display has very thin bezels. Vivo has done a great job in terms of the overall screen experience. It’s also an apt choice for content consumption.

The display is quite vibrant with minimal bezels on the sides with a little chin down under, and the AMOLED helps with the best .

Vivo Z1X also has an in-display optical fingerprint scanner, an upgrade over the Z1 Pro with a physical scanner. Many prefer it, but again we would embrace the latest screen embedded fingerprint unlocking technology.

Hardware & Gaming Performance: Powered By Snapdragon 712

The same Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset has been used Vivo Z1X. Based on an 10nm architecture, it couples with Adreno 616 GPU. Snapdragon 712 is almost 10 per cent faster than Snapdragon 710 chip.

It offers 45 per cent better graphical performance and 2 times better AI performance, helping the Realme smartphone deliver around 25 percent better overall performance sharing the same Adreno 616 GPU for graphics.

In terms of daily performance, Vivo Z1X can run almost all tasks and mid-end games without any hiccups. The UI will play its own role where you may notice some negligible difference in daily use given the memory-heavy apps and social media.

Z1X does a great job when it comes to extended gaming and extensive multitasking. There are two storage models available to choose from: 6GB RAM with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. The smartphone also offers some dedicated gaming features to offer an enhanced gaming experience.

Software: Funtouch OS Okay?

Vivo Z1X also runs on Android 9 Pie, but with Funtouch 9.0 UI on top. The UI comes loaded with features and bloatware, and delivers a clean performance as any other non-stock device. There’s bloatware and customisations, but it isn’t bad.

The company has added a ton of features in their latest edition of the software, and it does look fresh and sorted.

The newly improved UI does offer some refreshing features compared to the previous OS with an easy-to-use overall structure and few tweaks.

48MP Powered Triple Camera: How Does It Perform?

Vivo Z1X sees an upgrade over the current cameras on Z1 Pro. Z1X feature a 48MP Sony IMX582 primary lens with an ultra-wide-angle secondary sensor and a third depth sensor for portraits and bokeh shots. Upfront, Vivo Z1X will come with the same 32MP camera sensor.

The selfies we took had a lot of details and it supports multiple shooting modes and filters to enhance selfies.

The AI-powered modes do a good job in terms of capturing details. The colours were a bit overdone and slightly artificial, but in overall, the front camera does a good job, be it wide shots or low light shots.

Vivo Z1X can take good detailed and sharp pictures in bright light with accurate colours. In poorly lit conditions, the device manages to click decent photos with almost accurate details and colours and does an average job. We are yet to test the camera in-depth, but the initial results are very impressive.

The dynamic range is good and it captures quite accurate details and produce good colours.

Z1 Pro did a fair job overall, and the new Vivo Z1X also offers improved great dynamic range with almost accurate colours irrespective of lighting conditions. It supports Google Camera and has a dedicated Night Mode for long-exposed shots.

The stock camera interface is quite minimal on both, and it’s loaded with AI-powered modes to enhance the overall photography. AI works on both sides to adjust to the particular lighting and adjust the filters.

In all, all thee three do good and make use of their respective lenses to take up some great shots.

Battery: New 22.5W FlashCharge Technology

Vivo Z1X packs in a larger 4,500mAh battery supporting 22W fast charging with USB type C support. The charge time may vary from 90 to 100 minutes. The smartphone ships with the 22W fast charger inside the box.

It can easily last more than a day on heavy usage, and even a day and a half on moderate use.

With continuous video playback, gaming and performing multi-tasking processes, the new Vivo smartphone can easily shoot up for a whole day without being charged.

Pricing: Competitive?

Vivo Z1X comes in two variants in India: the base model with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, and the top-end model packs in 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The base model with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at Rs 16,990.

The top model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage in India costs Rs 18,990.

Vivo Z1X comes in two colours: Fusion Blue and Phantom Purple. Vivo Z1X will go on sale in India from September 13. The device will be available via Flipkart and Vivo online store.

Verdict: Vivo Z1X Justifies The Price?

Vivo Z1X offer some excellent features at a mid-range pricing. In all, Vivo Z1X packs in a solid performance backed by a good processor, bigger display, a large battery, triple cameras with the 48MP lens backing it up.
