Urban Ministry has released India's first Ease of Living Index for Indian cities.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has released India’s first ‘Ease of Living Index 2018’.
Pune, Maharashtra’s 2nd biggest city has been declared as India’s most livable city, as it ranks #1 in this list.
India’s national capital: New Delhi has ranked #65, way down the top 10 cities list which is dominated by Maharashtra.
Rampur from UP is the worst city to live in India.

While Pune has been ranked #1, Navi Mumbai is at #2 and Greater Mumbai is at #3 position.
Thus, the top 3 best cities to live in India are from Maharashtra.
Pune has scored heavy marks in the areas of Governance, Identity/Culture, Health, Education and other factors.

Here Are The Worst Cities To Live In India
3 cities from Bihar, one from UP and one from Nagaland have been ranked as worst 5 cities to live in India.
Rampur from UP is ranked #111, and thus holds the position as the worst city to live in India. At #110 is Nagaland’s capital Kohima.
Patna, capital of Bihar is ranked #109, which makes it as the 3rd worst city to live. Bihar Sharif and Bhagalpur are the other cities from Bihar which are ranked as the worst 5 cities to live in India.
New Delhi, India’s capital is ranked at a lowly 65, as it scores very less marks in Education, Health, Governance, and other factors.
Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, which are India’s biggest states have not even a single city in the top 10 list.

Which Factors Were Considered For The Ranking?
The Ease of Living framework has been divided into 4 categories: Institutional, which has Governance; Social, which has Culture, Health, Education and Safety; Economic, which has business opportunities, employment and Physical which has factors such as transportation, water supply, housing etc.
Overall, there were 15 categories and 78 indicators which were used to rank these 111 cities.
A consortium of research agencies conducted the surveys: Ipsos Research; Athena Infonomics and The Economist Intelligence Unit.
