The company which changed the face of the Indian telecom sector has one of the lowest customer acquisition costs in the country. Reliance Jio has a customer acquisition cost of Rs 129 per new subscriber, the largest carrier in India, Idea Cellular has a much higher cost at Rs 216.
Jio started operating commercially in September 2016, first with a freemium seven-month free data and calls and then with some of the cheapest plans available in the market. Currently, the operator offers the best-in-industry plans providing data at as low as Rs 1.5 per GB.

Other Incumbents Suffer Loss, Jio Continues To Gain
India’s largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel recently posted its first net loss in 15 years. The whole market is in a state of dilemma. Aircel and RCom has already closed down their companies. Idea is standing at a net loss of Rs 930.6 crore, and has merged with Vodafone, India’s second largest carrier to continue its operations.
On the other had, Reliance Jio has reported a 1.2% sequential rise in last quarter. The company stands at a net profit of Rs 510 crore on a 3.6% on-quarter rise in revenue to Rs 7,128 crore.
Jio Has Raised Rs 24,000 Crore Revenue in Advance
According to brokerage firm ICICI Securities, Reliance Jio has related party transactions in the annual report shows that the company has already raised Rs 24,000 crore revenue in advance from Reliance Retail.
Being a direct subsidiary of Reliance Industries, Reliance Retail is the sole distributor of all the Jio products in the country.
Jio FTTH Broadband Awaits Commercial Launch
The staff and employee costs directly related to the day-to-day operations of the company and Jio’s fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband and enterprise businesses continue to be capitalised. The Jio FTTH Broadband is pending a commercial launch, which is expected to roll out by the end of 2018.
According to IDFC, the current annual report reflects that the company has a high capital intensity and it will continue with its expansion of the capital employed to fund the businesses in the future.

Recently Reliance Jio re-updated its plan to offer more data prompting other companies to follow the trend. After Airtel launched a new Rs 558 plan to offer 246GB of data, Jio replied with a bunch of changes in its current plans.
Vodafone has two plans available at Rs 511 and Rs 569 plans which offers 2GB and 3GB data per day respectively.
