Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S Launched; Dual Cameras & Wireless Charging, Finally!

Xiaomi has finally unveiled the much-anticipated Mi MIX 2S in China today. The device was initially scheduled to release at the MWC 2018 but was later postponed. The Mi MIX series was first launched in 2016 which featured a near bezel-less screen surprising the smartphone giants around the world.
The Mi MIX 2S is the successor to the highly successful Mi MIX 2 with improvements in terms of camera, processing power and build. The new Mi MIX 2S has updated dual 12MP cameras with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. It is also the first Xiaomi device to support Qi wireless charging.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S – Features & Specifications
Mi MIX 2S does not have a notch on the screen as was being speculated. The bezel-less smartphone will come with a similar design just like Mi MIX 2 from last year.
Design
The Mi MIX 2S features a full ceramic build with a glass front and rear. The fingerprint reader is located on the rear panel at its usual place.
Display
The smartphone sports a 5.9 inch IPS LCD Full HD+ display with an 18:9 ratio and almost no bezels. It has a screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 with a pixel density of 403 PPI.
Hardware
The Mi MIX 2S will feature Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor, the Snapdragon 845, clocked at 2.8Ghz paired with Adreno 630 and 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM.
Storage
The 6GB version will come with 64GB or 128GB of internal UFS 2.1 storage, while the higher-priced 8GB variant will have 256GB of internal storage. The storage cannot be further expanded.
Software
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will run the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with the newly launched MIUI 9.5 on top, which now supports Google ARCore for AR-enabled games.
Camera
The camera has seen the biggest upgrade, as the Mi MIX 2 successor will feature two 12MP cameras at the back. The primary camera has a Sony IMX 363 sensor with 1.4µm pixel size, 4-axis optical image stabilisation (OIS) with dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus. The secondary shooter has a 2x optical zoom sensor to create a DSLR-like blur effect.
The rear setup is backed by a dual-tone LED flash and is capable of 4K video recording. Up front, it will feature the same 5MP fixed-focus shooter from Mi MIX 2 with support for Full HD video recording.
Connectivity Options
The device will support two SIM cards (nano+nano) with 4G LTE and VoLTE. It will come with Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C port and no 3.5mm headphone port.
Battery
Mi MIX 2S packs in a 3400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 and wireless charging support. It is also the first Xiaomi phone to support wireless charging. Xiaomi has also unveiled a 7.5W Qi Wireless Charging Station priced at CNY 99 (around Rs. 1,000).
What’s New With The Mi MIX 2S Camera?
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S is not much different compared to its predecessor, the Mi MIX 2. The major changes are made in the camera department. The new Mi MIX 2S will come with two rear cameras in an iPhone X-like vertical setup. It will have following features;
Multi-frame Noise Reduction Algorithm
The smartphone will now use Xiaomi’s new multi-frame noise reduction algorithms to get clearer pictures, just like Google’s HDR+ feature.
Shooting Modes
Mi MIX 2S can shoot Full HD (1080p) videos at 60 fps and HD (720p) videos at 120 fps.
Blurring Effects
The Mi MIX 2S cameras will use AI to create DSLR-like background blurring even with the single front-facing selfie camera.
Automatic Camera Settings Adjustment With AI
The artificial intelligence (AI) in Mi MIX 2S can also identify various objects and scenes in the frame and can adjust the camera settings automatically for better, clearer pictures.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S – Price, Variants & India Launch
Currently, the newly-launched Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S is available in China at following prices—
- 6GB RAM + 64GB Storage – CNY 3,299 (around Rs 33,900/-)
- 6GB RAM + 128GB Storage – CNY 3,599 (around Rs 37,100/-)
- 8GB RAM + 256GB Storage – CNY 3,999 (around Rs 41,500/-)
The device will be available in two colour options – Black and Ceramic White. The device might come to India in a couple of months and will be priced between Rs 40,000/- and Rs 42,000/-.

In India, the Mi MIX 2S will face direct competition from the bestselling premium brand in India OnePlus, and its current bestseller OnePlus 5T.
