Nokia 7 Launching On 31st October! Features, Specifications and More

HMD Global has sent out media invites for a launch happening in India on October 31. The company is expected to reveal a new device or devices during the event. Among them will be the mid-range Nokia 7 and, quite possibly, the low-end Nokia 2.

Based on all leaks, the Nokia 2 is widely rumoured to be the cheapest offering from HMD Global till now. No details of Nokia 2 are available anywhere as of now.

Nokia 7 – Specifications And Features

The smartphone has been launched in China, and is expected to be launched in India on 31st October.

Design And Build

Nokia 7 comes with a glass back which features a 3D curve at the edges. The device sports a 7000 series aluminium frame, made using vacuum-moulded process, giving the device a sturdy structure of glass and metal. The vertical camera module at the back is placed above the fingerprint scanner in a standard mid-range configuration.

Display

The Nokia 7 will sport a 5.2 inch Full HD display with a 1080P screen resolution and pixel density of 423 ppi. The device will get Gorilla Glass 3 protection with a 2.5D curve. It has narrow bezels on the sides with a prominent top and bottom .

Hardware

Coming to the hardware setup, Nokia 7 will be powered by Qualcomm’s 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 630 chipset. The device has 2 RAM variants, 4GB and 6GB. It is still unclear whether both the variants will make it to India.

Software

Nokia 7 will run Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, with a promised upgrade to Android Oreo and upcoming Android P, like Nokia’s other smartphones.

Storage

On the storage front, Nokia 7 will come with 64GB of on-board storage for both variants. The storage can be further expanded up to 256GB with an external memory card.

Camera

Coming to its optics, Nokia 7 has something interesting to offer. The device sports a 16MP rear shooter with 1.12µm pixels, ZEISS lens, f/1.8 aperture, equipped with a dual-tone LED flash. Up front, there’s a 5MP selfie snapper with 1.4µm pixels, f/2.0 aperture and a 84 degree wide Field-of-View. Nokia 7 will get Nokia’s signature ‘Bothie’ feature to capture images from both, front and back, cameras at the same time using the Dual Sight mode.

SIM Support And Connectivity

The smartphone comes with dual SIM support. It has a hybrid SIM slot though. It supports all 4G LTE bands with 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS. It features a USB Type C port.

Dust And Water Resistance

The Nokia 7 comes with IP54 certification, making it a dust-proof and splash-proof device, but not fully water-resistant.

Battery

The smartphone will pack in a 3000mAh battery, which can easily run the phone for a whole working day, with moderate usage, without needing to charge it in between. Additionally, it also supports 18W fast charging.

Price And Variants

Nokia 7 is available in 2 colors options, Gloss Black and Matt White. Nokia 7 has been internationally priced at CNY 2,499 (around Rs. 24,500) for the 4GB RAM variant and CNY 2,699 (around Rs. 26,500) for the 6GB RAM variant. HMD is known to price Nokia smartphones lower in India as compared to their global prices, so these prices may differ.

Preliminary Verdict

With Xiaomi, Huawei, Motorola, Lenovo, Oppo, Vivo and other mid-range premium smartphone brands doing well in the market, it will not be easy for Nokia 7 to stand out. With lower-priced bestsellers like Xiaomi Mi A1, Honor 9i and Moto G5S Plus doing so well in the market, HMD has to price Nokia 7 smartly to be taken seriously amidst all the competition.
