Amazon India Brings A-Z GST Guide; Will Teach Everyone About GST Regime!
Amazon India has decided to embrace GST (Goods and Services Tax) regime in a massive manner. Understanding its importance, and relevance for all traders, businesses and public at large, Amazon India has launched extensive programmes and activities for teaching the nuances of GST regime for not only their sellers but also everyone.
Interestingly, Amazon along with other e-commerce portals like Flipkart and Snapdeal have been opposing the implementation of GST in e-commerce sector and had also formed a lobby to fight it.
A-Z GST Guide: Complete Knowledge About GST For All
Amazon India has created an extensive education portal for educating the changes under GST. Termed as ‘A-Z GST Guide’, the portal was internally launched in the month of February, and more than 5000 sellers have already benefitted from this initiative.
This information hub provides the following guides about GST:
The last section about TCS answers three most important questions for a small business owner, when it comes to this new tax introduced under GST:
- What Is Tax Collected At Source
- Is Tax Collected At Source applicable to all forms of retail? (no, only for online retail via marketplace)
- What do sellers need to do to get a full or partial refund of TCS?
Amazon India Director and GM (Seller Services) Gopal Pillai said, “By building a dedicated A-Z GST Guide portal, which is open to anyone visiting the platform and not just the Amazon sellers, the company has been educating visitors on the nuances of GST,”
Other Activities For Helping Sellers
Besides, Amazon India will also provide access to paid help, when it comes to GST implementation for their sellers, and conduct one-to-one assistance via Seller Cafes located across 30 cities.
Gopal Pillai said, “Sellers will also be provided with the flexibility of accessing in-person assistance from Seller Cafes that are present in more than 30 cities in India. All necessary system and process changes are being implemented rapidly to ensure sellers are GST compliant at launch..”
Amazon has around 1.7 lakh sellers on their platform, and they are now encouraging them all to use the GST Guide, and empower themselves with information.

Its surprising that on one side Amazon has created a GST guide whereas on the other side, it is not accepting GST No.
As per GST Laws, every buyer should intimate the seller about his GST No. and then only he would be able to get the GST benefit. There is no option of intimation of GST No. to the seller for purchases done through the GST Portal.
This is highly surprising. As a result of this, many small businesses are preferring to buy offline as compared to buying online as in an offline purchase – they can directly intimate the GST No. to the seller
