Digital Locker, Bharatnet, e-Sign & 10 Other Digital Initiatives Launched At Digital India Week [Overview]
India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Digital India Week yesterday in capital city of Delhi. At the event, Indian Inc pledged a whopping investment of Rs 4.5 lakh crore towards various projects which would be executed under Make in India and Digital India initiative.
Apart from these investments multitude of products and services were unveiled by the Government to improve digital divide, to bring transparent governance and to harness the power of technology for betterment of lives of Indian citizens.
We bring you round-up of 10 major products and services launched at the event:

1.) Digital Locker
Aadhaar linked Digital Locker has been in work for a while now. We published details of the beta version in February of this year. The ultimate aim of the digital locker scheme is to place all educational, medical, passport and PAN card details of every Indian in a digital form over a cloud storage system so that it can be accessed from anywhere in the world without having to carry all the documents physically.
The Digital Locker also has functionality where users can make various Government applications where documents are needed to be submitted.

2.) e-Sign
This service is again part of Digital Locker itself, where individuals can e-Sign and attest Digital documents using Aadhaar card number and PAN card. The application will allow users to make any government application completely paperless.
3.) National Scholarship Portal
National Scholarships Portal is one stop solution for end to end scholarship process right from submission of student application, verification, sanction and disbursal to end beneficiary for all the scholarships provided by the Government of India.

4.) e-Hospital
e-Hospital is essentially a framework which will connect all hospitals across India. Any person who wants an appointment with hospital will need to go through Online Registration System (ORS) which is Aadhaar based. With e-Hospital, you can get an OPD appointment, lab reports and blood availability in any government hospital and it can be done completely online.

5.) Digitise India
Digitise India aims to convert all the important documents and services in Government offices and record rooms in digital format. The library of these documents will then be available online and can be searched online by anyone. Digitization process will be done through Crowd sourcing, and citizens can earn money by participating in this activity
6.) MyGov Mobile App
MyGov mobile app will offer all features of MyGov portal in a mobile app. Citizens can participate in Government Policy making by offering ideas and suggestions through this app. The app will also provide information on various initiatives and services launched by the Government. 7.) Swachh Bharat Mission App
The app is essentially aimed at increasing people participation in clean India mission. The app can be downloaded from here on their smartphones. App users can then upload public toilet photographs across India along with their locations. The information will then be collated in centralized place, which ordinary citizens can use.
8.) BharatNet
BharatNet aims to be the world’s largest rural broadband connectivity project using optical fibre to connect each of 2.5 lakh gram panchayats with a minimum of 100 Mbps bandwidth. Bharatnet will also serve as infrastructure backbone of Digital India, to facilitate delivery of e-Governance, e-Health, e-Education, e-Banking, internet and various other services.
9.) WiFi Hotspots
In partnership with BSNL, Government of India wants to launch Wifi hotspots across 2500 towns and cities in India that can be used by citizens to access Internet. You can read more about it here.
10.) Next Generation Network (NGN)
NGN aims to bring high-speed broadband connectivity in India. Broadband speeds are notoriously low in India, and NGN aims to change that. It will converge public switched telephone network, data network and wireless mobile network to bring about high-speed connectivity. VAS such as video chats, video conferencing and other services will be made available on mobile phone on fixed line telephone at nominal prices.
