Google has taken the numero uno position when it comes to the best companies in India to work for. The survey released jointly by Great place to Work Institute & Economic Times puts Google as the most preferred company for employment.
According to the report, a company that provides its Employees with greater work life balance have been given thumbs up by the employees. In the top 25 more than 88% of the employees agreed to the statement:
“I am able to take time off from work when I think it’s necessary.”
The findings are based on interviews with more than 53000 employees and 395 companies across the country. If we compare India with rest of the world, India trails companies in European Union (EU) & USA where 93 & 92 percent employees have more positive rating.
When we covered the same survey in 2008, Google was placed in 3rd position, while Indian bread RMSI Pvt. Ltd. was top company to work for in India.
In 2010 list of Great places to work, 3 out of top 5 companies are Multinationals while 4 of them are technology companies.
Generally, the list suggests that Technology / IT companies offer better working environment and work life balance to its employees, as majority of them are tech oriented companies.
What is surprising though is that none of the top 5 Indian software companies make the cut in the top 50 companies. No mention of Infosys, TCS, Wipro or Tech-Mahindra.

Hiiiiiii
GOOD.
The worst company to work for is clearpath technology no professionalism and they use profanity in hindi. It is likje a baniya shop
could u plz tel me ,what r d IT company’s competing for top 3rd place in India…?
hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii akash
strange not find BHEL……….
Planning to move back to India for good, I am looking for good companies to work for in India. I got excited when I looked at this list and started thinking this might be perfect to consider.
However, as soon as, I started scrolling down and found Claris Lifesciences in the list, I realize that this ranking is incorrect. I know it from first hand experience since I have worked for this company in past. The bosses are rude and mostly expect you to be in office till they are in (meaning you cann’t leave work before at least 9-10 pm). Worst is look busy culture where work load is not enough to stay occupied for more than 8 hours yet to you have to seat there and do nothing, just to be in good books of your boss.
All my ex colleagues at Claris left job within 2 years of joining not because they had better opportunity but because they were so fed up working here. Lastly, this company is completely sales oriented, doesn’t spend much on R&D (copies the products of MNCs) and no one cares about advance analysis to run the business better. It is all about sell, sell, sell.
So yes, I won’t trust the ranking provided above.
unityinfra is a fuking company they dont work accept gossisping
majority r it companies……..try to include a separate list for other industries
Its really abig surprise not to find Infosys, TCS, Wipro and HCL anywhere in the list. Are their work place practices so bad? Are employees overstressed? We do hear stories of these companies putting employees to tremendous work pressure, in their quest to maximize profits with minimum resources.
It is not a surprise. But these are where people get overworked
Could you please provide a link to the report as well – would make lives a lot easier for us! :)
Cheers!
Shrikant
Shrikant I have linked it – Go here – http://www.greatplacetowork.in/ and you will get full report there….
Surprising not to find Mahindra & Mahindra, TCS, Glaxo Smithkline on the list. On what basis these companies are called top 50 indian companies? is that from employee satisfaction point of view?
what makes u think TCS is a great company :P :P Google India, IBM are obviously good
