WhatsApp said users can now have two WhatsApp accounts logged in simultaneously.
They will be able to log into two WhatsApp accounts on one phone within the app, similar to the multiple account feature available onInstagram and Facebook.
It will be available to Android users in the coming weeks and when it is, users will be able to use and switch two mobile phone number WhatsApp accounts in one app.
How it helps
Meta says the new feature will be helpful for users who need to switch between different accounts, such as their work and personal profiles.
Users no longer have to log out and log back in each time they switch accounts or need to carry two separate phones.
It also eliminates the need to worry about messaging from the wrong place, thus simplifying their messaging experience.
“This is particularly useful for people switching between accounts, such as your work and personal – making it so that you no longer need to log out each time, carry two phones or worry about messaging from the wrong account,” said a WhatsApp spokesperson.
How it works
In order to set up a second WhatsApp account, users will require a second phone number and SIM card or a phone that supports multi-SIM or eSIM functionality.
The second phone or its SIM card will be required in order to receive the one-time passcode that WhatsApp will send via SMS to verify their second account on a different device.
The process involves accessing the WhatsApp settings, clicking on the arrow next to your name, and selecting “Add account.”
Users can also customize privacy and notification settings for each account.
How to?
To use two WhatsApp accounts in one phone:
- Open WhatsApp and tap on the three dots in the top right corner.
- Tap on “Settings” and then tap on “Account.”
- Tap on “Add account” and follow the instructions to set up your second account.
- Once your second account is set up, you can switch between accounts by tapping on the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then tapping on “Account.”
Avoid third party apps
The feature is currently rolling out only for Android.
Meta recommends users to use only the official WhatsApp application and avoid downloading unofficial or fake versions to add more accounts.
This is because the fake apps do not offer the same level of protection as the official one does, which ensures the security and privacy of your messages
