Reliance Jio Infocomm, the predominant telecom service provider in India, has embarked on a collaborative endeavor with the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology-Mumbai to bring forth ‘Bharat GPT,’ a significant language model finely tuned to cater to the distinctive linguistic and contextual nuances of India.

This momentous announcement was made by the chairman of Reliance Jio, Akash Ambani, during his address at the annual Techfest held at IIT Mumbai.
In elucidating the collaboration, Ambani articulated, “We have been working on a project with IIT Bombay to launch the Bharat GPT programme.” This initiative underscores Jio’s strategic move towards incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into its organizational framework, not only vertically within its structure but also horizontally across diverse sectors. Ambani underscored the significance of large-language models and generative AI in shaping the trajectory of the next decade.
Furthermore, Ambani disclosed the company’s ambitious plans to launch innovative products and services spanning the realms of media, commerce, communication, and devices. He emphasized the transformative role of AI, expressing the belief that AI is poised to permeate every facet of the business landscape. As per Ambani, AI will “consume everything, to me, AI stands for artificial intelligence, and also stands for all included.”
Jio Working on a New Operating System?
In a noteworthy revelation, Ambani shared Jio’s contemplation of introducing its own operating system for television. He indicated that the company has been diligently working on developing this operating system and is actively considering the comprehensive approach for its launch.
He revealed, “We have been working on our own OS (operating system) for a while now for TVs and we are comprehensively thinking about how to launch it.”
While Ambani hinted at the ongoing work on the vision of “Jio 2.0,” he refrained from providing intricate details during the presentation. Additionally, he conveyed Jio’s keen interest in offering 5G private networks, affirming the company’s commitment to providing a 5G stack that would be accessible to enterprises of all sizes. This strategic move reflects Jio’s forward-thinking approach and its readiness to play a pivotal role in the unfolding era of advanced telecommunications and artificial intelligence.
