Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Jalgaon in Maharashtra today to celebrate a significant milestone in women’s empowerment. The Prime Minister will felicitate 1.1 million women, known as ‘Lakhpati Didis,’ who have achieved an annual income of ₹1 lakh through their participation in self-help groups (SHGs). This achievement marks a major success in the government’s ongoing efforts to uplift women economically.
Financial Support for Self-Help Groups
During his visit, PM Modi will not only honor these successful women but also provide substantial financial support to further their progress. An official statement revealed that the Prime Minister will release a revolving fund of ₹2,500 crore. This fund is designed to benefit approximately 48 lakh members of 4.3 lakh SHGs across the state. In addition, PM Modi will disburse ₹5,000 crore in bank loans, which will directly impact 2.58 million members of 2.35 lakh SHGs.
The Vision Behind ‘Lakhpati Didis’
The concept of ‘Lakhpati Didis’ is a cornerstone of the government’s initiative to empower women financially. A ‘Lakhpati Didi’ is a woman who earns at least ₹1 lakh annually, thanks to the support and resources provided by SHGs. Since the program’s inception, over one crore women have joined the ranks of ‘Lakhpati Didis,’ demonstrating the initiative’s significant impact. The government has set an ambitious target to create 30 million ‘Lakhpati Didis,’ ensuring that even more women across the country achieve financial independence.
Empowering Women Through SHGs
Self-help groups have proven to be a powerful tool for women’s empowerment in India. These groups not only provide financial assistance but also offer training, resources, and a platform for women to collaborate and grow their enterprises. The government’s continued focus on expanding SHGs and supporting their members financially is a testament to its commitment to women’s economic empowerment.
Conclusion: A Step Toward Economic Empowerment
PM Modi’s visit to Jalgaon and the felicitation of 1.1 million ‘Lakhpati Didis’ underscore the government’s dedication to empowering women economically. By providing financial support and recognizing the achievements of these women, the government is paving the way for millions more to achieve financial independence and contribute to the nation’s growth.
