A new FASTag concessional local pass will take effect on November 1, 2026, for eligible non-commercial vehicle owners who live within 20 km of a National Highway toll plaza. It offers a fixed annual fee for using one designated toll plaza, instead of paying the regular toll on every crossing.

New FASTag Rules From Nov: Locals Can Now Get Annual Pass At Rs 1500

The fee will be ₹1,500 a year for eligible plazas outside municipal or local town limits and ₹3,000 for plazas within those limits. The pass is intended for residents who regularly use a nearby toll plaza.

Who Can Get the Local Pass?

The pass is meant for owners of eligible non-commercial vehicles living within 20 km of a National Highway fee plaza. The vehicle must have a valid and functional FASTag.

The pass is valid only at the specific plaza for which it is issued and cannot be transferred to another plaza. It will not be available on National Highways or expressways that use a closed toll-collection system. Locations where a service road or alternative route is available are also excluded.

Eligible residents can choose between the existing monthly pass and the new concessional local pass for that plaza.

Local Pass vs FASTag Annual Pass

The new local pass is different from the FASTag Annual Pass, which costs ₹3,075 and is available to eligible cars, jeeps and vans. The Annual Pass can be used at designated National Highway and National Expressway toll plazas across the country, for up to 200 trips or one year, whichever comes first.

The local pass, by contrast, is restricted to one specific toll plaza. Its lower fee may suit residents who cross the same nearby plaza regularly, while the nationwide Annual Pass may be more useful for people who frequently travel on covered highways.

Where and When Can You Buy It?

The local pass will be available at eligible toll plazas from November 1, 2026. It is scheduled to become available through the Rajmargyatra app from December 1.

Before applying, vehicle owners should confirm that their regular plaza is covered, check which annual fee applies and verify the eligibility requirements. The government may revise the local-pass rates annually, with any changes taking effect on April 1.

Which Pass Should You Choose?

The local pass may be the better fit if you live within the eligible radius and repeatedly cross one particular toll plaza. The FASTag Annual Pass may be more suitable if you travel across multiple covered National Highways and Expressways.

Compare the fee with your usual toll spending and check the official eligibility details before purchasing either pass.
