The job market around the globe seems a bit abysmal for those who are standing at the lowest rung or first step of hierarchy, but there is a ray of shine in the Indian freshers hiring space since more than 68% of employers surveyed across India intend to onboard freshers in their organizations during the first half of 2024. This displays the inclination in the hiring of freshers or entry-level job seekers in the country.
TeamLease EdTech Career Outlook Report 2024 Insights
As per the findings of the TeamLease EdTech Career Outlook Report for January to June 2024, the same number was 62% in the 2023 timeframe.
The report was developed on the basis of survey that was conducted between the time period of July to September 2023, covering as many as 526 companies across 18 industries and 14 geographies.
Founder and CEO of TeamLease EdTech, Shantanu Rooj said that the upward movement in the number of firms intending to hire freshers displays the employers’ recognition of young talent’s potential to drive innovation as well as the ability to contribute significantly to the evolving professional landscape.
He further added that another reason why certain industries are interested in entry level hiring is due to its cost efficiency when it comes to establishment and maintenance of talent pipeline and provisions of comprehensive training, be it hard or be it soft skills.
The industries which have shown uptick in hiring intent are mainly in the ecommerce and technology, engineering and infrastructure, and manufacturing domains. On the contrary, the IT sector hiring intent has dropped from 67% in H1 2023 to 42% in H1 2024. This reflects the sector’s apprehension over on-boarding fresh talent.
Despite this decline, there are ample opportunities in other sectors which are riding on the back of the digital transformation.
Opportunities Amidst Transition
Rooj highlighted that while there is a dip in hiring when it comes to the traditional IT services space, but there are still ongoing and near future planned hiring in India in the global capability centres, ecommerce firms, and tech startups. Ranging from ecommerce executive to content creator, there are many sought-after roles for freshers across cities and industries due to the ever evolving job landscape.
The report further underlined the importance of amalgamation of hard skills like data science and blockchain; and soft skills which includes emotional intelligence as well as digital literacy.
Emphasizing that soft skills are inherent and hence have no less importance than the hard skills, which are rather trainable.
The numbers spell good for the India’s strong growth trajectory, however we just have wait and watch on what actually happens in the fresher hiring space….
