With the ever evolving technology landscape of India, Indian techies are adapting their careers in order to stay ahead.
Indian Tech Professionals Prioritize Innovation, Equity, and Career Growth in Job Selection
As per a recent study conducted by Amadeus, a global leader in travel technology, in collaboration with Opinium Research, reveals that nearly 50% of tech professionals in India believe they will need to change careers at least 3 times to keep up with technological advancements.
As a response to such need, over 53% of respondents plan to switch jobs within the next five years.
This shift goes on to highlight the growing need for employers to prioritize upskilling and foster innovation, as professionals seek roles that align with their goals.
As per the study, 63% of tech professionals stated that innovation is their top priority when choosing an employer. In addition to this, 25% are willing to accept a pay cut to work for companies known for innovation and industry leadership, reflecting a trend where creative freedom and meaningful work take precedence over financial compensation.
Another important factor in the job selection is equity in the workplace. An overwhelming 91% of tech professionals prioritize equitable workplaces when considering future employers. Companies that promote inclusive environments not only foster better innovation but also enhance collaboration, leading to improved business outcomes. This shift demonstrates that equitable workplaces are now integral to business strategy and competitiveness.
Beyond Well-Being: Indian Tech Professionals Demand Innovation, Flexibility, and Career Growth
While many professionals appreciate well-being initiatives, such as mental health support and work-life balance—70% and 68% respectively—many are still seeking change. This suggests that employers need to go beyond well-being measures and focus on innovation, professional growth, and flexibility to retain top talent.
As per the Senior Vice President of Amadeus Labs India, Mani Ganeshan, tech professionals today seek more than salary—they want purpose, continuous learning, and innovation. Employers must create environments where employees are empowered to grow, experiment, and challenge the status quo. Flexibility and career development are critical, with 48% of respondents prioritizing flexible work options and 51% seeking clear career growth opportunities. By embracing these evolving needs, companies will remain competitive in India’s tech sector.
