A government official announced that, commencing next month and extending until May 2024, Thailand will implement a visa waiver for travellers originating from India and Taiwan.

Indians Don't Need Visa For Visiting Thailand Till This Date: Find Out Why This Decision Was Made By Thailand

This strategic move aims to attract a higher influx of tourists in anticipation of the upcoming peak season. Notably, Thailand had previously eliminated visa requirements for Chinese tourists in September, which constituted the largest source of tourism before the COVID-19 pandemic, accounting for a remarkable 11 million out of the record-breaking 39 million arrivals in 2019.

Tourism in Thailand: Thriving Economy with Indian Visitors as Key Contributors

According to the latest government statistics, Thailand recorded a total of 22 million visitors between January and October 29, contributing a substantial 927.5 billion Thai Baht (equivalent to $25.67 billion) to the country’s economy. As part of this policy, individuals from India and Taiwan will be permitted to stay in Thailand for a duration of 30 days.

For the year, India has emerged as Thailand’s fourth largest contributor to the tourism sector, with approximately 1.2 million arrivals, trailing only Malaysia, China, and South Korea. The tourism sector from India has demonstrated noticeable growth, facilitated by the expansion of flight services and the presence of renowned hospitality chains actively catering to this market.

Thailand’s Tourism Strategy – Aiming for 28 Million Visitors to Boost Economy

Thailand’s broader objective is to attract around 28 million tourists this year, with the government aiming to leverage the travel industry’s strength to counterbalance the ongoing challenges posed by sluggish exports, which have hindered overall economic growth.

Thailand’s appeal as a top tourist destination lies in its diverse natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, delectable cuisine, warm hospitality, vibrant cities, adventure opportunities, wellness retreats, affordability, island paradises, unique cultural experiences, wildlife sanctuaries, and historical marvels. This combination offers a unique and special experience to tourists, encompassing nature, culture, adventure, and relaxation. Thailand’s “Land of Smiles” truly caters to a wide range of traveller preferences and interests.
