Foreign students in the UK can now change their status to work visas even before they graduate from the University.
Making workforce transition easier
The UK Government is taking the step to remove barriers for international students who wish to remain in the country and contribute to the workforce.
Earlier, a student had to have a degree-level qualification even if they had gained valuable skills and experience through other means, making it an unnecessary hurdle.
The latest change should provide greater flexibility and opportunities for international students.
How the country gains
On the other hand, the UK gains by attracting and retaining highly skilled talent.
Further, the removal of this barrier aligns with the Government’s stated goal of attracting the best and brightest global talent to the UK.
The Skilled Worker Visa will be more accessible to a wider range of individuals and will allow them to contribute their skills and expertise to the UK economy.
The UK must continue to support and attract international talent since it will help drive innovation and growth in the country.
Anti-migrant stance
Last month, the Rishi Sunak government announced that it is likely to take strong measures against migration since the figure rose to a record high in June.
The British Office for National Statistics (ONS) recently published data which shows the net migration in the UK rose to 504,000 till June 2022.
This surge is higher than pre-Brexit levels with most arrivals coming from non-EU countries.
Special schemes for specific countries
An estimated 1.1 million long-term immigrants arrived over the period, up 435,000 from the year before that.
Three new visa schemes – for Ukrainians, Afghans and Hong Kong British nationals – collectively added around 138,000 to the number of arrivals.
Apart from that students also make up a large proportion of the arrivals.
Meanwhile, the biggest proportion of those leaving Britain were EU nationals.
