Indian Students In Germany Increase By 214% In 8 Years: 42,000 Indians Studying In Germany Now

As per the statistics of Studying in Germany, Indians have surpassed the Chinese diaspora when it comes to choosing Germany as their foreign education center. There has been a rise of 214% in number of Indians studying from Germany since 2016.

Uptick in Indian Students Choosing Germany for Further Studies 

As per the report, the number of Indians studying in Germany has more than doubled to 42000 in 2023 as compared to 20562 in 2019.

Stephanie Kluth, Director of Admissions from ESMT Berlin said that “Germany is renowned for its high-quality education system. The country is home to leading business schools, offering a wide range of programmes in various fields”.

She further highlighted the strong demand for skilled professionals coupled with conducive study policies and said “Germany also has a strong economy and a demand for skilled professionals in various industries. The country has implemented policies to attract international students and encouraged them to stay and work after completing their studies. This potential for post-graduate employment can be a significant factor”.

Citing other indices like quality of life, safety, healthcare, a comfortable environment as well as a potentially promising career are few reasons as to why students prefer the Deutschland.

Why Germany Appeals to Indian Students?

Programme Manager of the University of Mannheim Business School, Lea Oberlander said that it Germany is a good industrial location with good public universities and offers comfortable life and these are the key reasons behind the increased demand.

Regional Director for Europe at GMAC, Nalisha Patel said that reasons like affordable tuition fees, post-study work opportunities, and quality education make Germany attractive for Indian students. Also, Indian students can stay upto a period of 18 months to search for work and once they get a job offer, they can also apply for permanent residency.

In order to get through the application process, Oberlander has advised the Indian students to submit the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) certificate early so that the acceptance chances are increased and fee reductions possibilities are increased. Expressing passion as well as self-awareness and aspirations goes a long way.

Additional tips given to the students includes researching the college, networking on LinkedIn with seniors and graduates.
