EaseMyTrip has expanded beyond online travel bookings and entered the electric mobility space with the rollout of electric buses in Bhopal.
The company’s electric mobility arm, Easy Green Mobility, or EMTev, has launched its first electric buses as part of its Vision 2030 roadmap. The company aims to eventually build manufacturing capacity for 5,000 electric buses every year.
Bhopal Marks The Beginning
The Bhopal rollout is an early step in EMTev’s plans to establish an integrated electric mobility business covering manufacturing, fleet operations and service support.
The company is also planning to progressively localise components used in its electric buses, with the objective of strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities.
EMTev’s operating arm, YOLO Bus, already has experience running conventional intercity buses across several southern Indian markets.
12-Metre Electric Bus With 350 Km Range
EMTev’s initial electric bus portfolio includes a 12-metre electric seater coach with capacity for 45 passengers plus the driver.
The bus is powered by a 423.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and uses a permanent magnet synchronous motor.
According to the company, the bus can offer a range of up to 350 km and reach a top speed of up to 100 km per hour.
It also comes with air suspension and electro-hydraulic power steering.
Fast Charging And Safety Features
The electric bus is equipped with liquid-cooled battery technology and supports fast charging through a dual-gun configuration.
Safety equipment includes electronic braking and electronic stability control systems.
Camera-based monitoring is also being used to track vehicle and battery-related data.
EMTev is additionally developing AI-enabled driver monitoring and blind-spot detection capabilities. Advanced driver assistance systems are part of the company’s longer-term technology roadmap.
5,000 Electric Buses A Year
The company plans to build annual manufacturing capacity of 5,000 electric buses within the next five years.
The target is part of EaseMyTrip’s Vision 2030 strategy, which seeks to establish capabilities across electric bus manufacturing, fleet operations and service support.
EMTev is also working on increasing domestic sourcing and manufacturing of electric vehicle components as it expands.
Intra-City And Intercity Focus
The company plans to develop electric buses for both intra-city and intercity transportation.
EMTev says its focus is on combining long-range battery technology, faster charging, safety systems and passenger comfort while achieving lower operating costs compared with conventional buses.
The company expects its experience in bus operations through YOLO Bus to help support the expansion of the new electric mobility business.
EaseMyTrip’s EV Expansion
The move represents a significant expansion of EaseMyTrip’s business beyond travel booking.
By entering electric bus manufacturing and operations, the company is looking to participate in India’s growing electric commercial mobility market.
The immediate focus will be on fulfilling committed electric bus deliveries while building the manufacturing, service and operational infrastructure required to scale the business.
