Tata Motors has launched the new Aeris compact sedan in India at an introductory price of Rs 5.29 lakh, making it significantly cheaper than the Maruti Suzuki Dzire at the entry level.
The Aeris replaces the Tigor and arrives with a redesigned exterior, an updated cabin, petrol and CNG powertrains, and a long list of features. Bookings are now open, while deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 11.
Starting Price Is Rs 5.29 Lakh
The Tata Aeris petrol-manual range starts at Rs 5.29 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.19 lakh, ex-showroom.
The CNG range starts at Rs 6.29 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.74 lakh.
The sedan is available in five variants: Smart, Pure, Pure Plus, Creative and Accomplished.
AMT versions are available from the Pure variant onwards.
More Than Rs 1 Lakh Cheaper Than Dzire
The Aeris enters the market with a considerably lower starting price than its biggest rivals.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire starts at around Rs 6.31 lakh, making the Aeris’s entry price more than Rs 1 lakh lower.
The Aeris will also compete with the Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze in India’s compact sedan segment.
However, the introductory prices announced by Tata are ex-showroom and the final on-road price will be higher after taxes, insurance and other charges.
Fresh Design Inspired By The Tiago
The Aeris gets a substantially redesigned exterior compared with the outgoing Tigor.
The front features slim LED headlamps, eyebrow-style LED DRLs, a gloss-black grille and redesigned bumpers.
At the rear, the sedan gets connected-looking LED tail lamps and a redesigned bumper.
The car also gets 15-inch alloy wheels on higher variants, while lower variants and CNG versions use smaller wheels.
Large 419-Litre Boot
One of the practical highlights of the Aeris is its 419-litre boot space in the petrol version.
The CNG version uses Tata’s twin-cylinder setup, allowing more usable luggage space compared with conventional CNG layouts.
The sedan measures 3,995 mm in length and has a 2,450 mm wheelbase.
10.25-Inch Screen And Ventilated Seats
The Aeris gets a significantly updated cabin with features including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging and automatic climate control.
Higher variants also get ventilated front seats, cruise control, rear AC vents, auto-folding ORVMs and a premium cabin finish.
Six Airbags Standard
Safety is another major focus.
Six airbags are offered as standard, along with three-point seatbelts and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.
Higher variants add features such as electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring, a 360-degree camera and blind-view monitoring.
Petrol And CNG Options
The Aeris uses a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 86 PS and 113 Nm.
The CNG version produces 76 PS and 97 Nm.
Both powertrains are available with five-speed manual and AMT transmissions, although the AMT is not offered on the entry-level Smart variant.
Private Buyers Only
Unlike many compact sedans that are sold to both individual and fleet customers, Tata is positioning the Aeris exclusively for private buyers.
Fleet customers will continue to be served through Tata’s Xpres brand.
With a starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh, modern styling, extensive features and petrol and CNG options, the Aeris marks Tata’s latest attempt to gain ground in the highly competitive compact sedan market.
